The Boilermakers are currently 0-2 ... and their next two games are against Missouri and BC. Mizzou seems to have a pretty potent O ... and that doesn't bode well given that Purdue's D seems "challenged." It's a little harder to get a bead on BC since they haven't played very tough competition ... but their O will likely pose a different set of challenges for Purdue.

As I look at the remainder for Purdue's schedule ... I'm only seeing 1 likely victory. Their schedule appears pretty tough ... with cross-overs against MSU and OSU ... and AT Indiana.

While I think Brohm IS a fine coach ... it looks like the Boilers are poised to stumble a bit this season. Of course, on the flip side ... it's possible that their D could improve as the season advances ... and maybe they pull off a few more victories.

All that said ... I don't see the Boilers going bowling this season.

if i were a purdue fan, what would bother me is 2 games with loses directly tied to a dumb defensive lineman getting a personal foul after the whistle at critical times.
Rarely does this ever happen in a situation that costs you a game let alone 2x.

I like the fact they have playmakers and are losing games while we lack playmakers and are winning games. Dear David bell, go there and what you see is what you get, come here and the team that wins without playmakers at WR gets even more potent.

I'll give a counter argument... just for fun...
Purdue lost 2 games by a total of 5 points...
4 point loss to Northwestern.. 1 point loss to Tyler Wiegers

both Missouri and Boston College were 7-6 last season... they are Purdue's next 2 opponents... and then after that its Nebraska..
Nebraska has lost 5 games in a row..
interesting enough is.... their last win was against Purdue.

after Nebraska, its Illinois... if Purdue wins their next 4 games... all of a sudden they look like a scary team again.

Purdue was 3-5 last year... ended the season 7-6...
they went 4-1 their last 5 games... which would indicate they get stronger as the season goes.

in 2016 Purdue was 3-5.... and ended the season 3-9
different coach.... different team.
anything can happen.

It's not altogether surprising. Boilers lost 9 starters I believe on defense. He had a ton on experienced athletes in D, and the Boilers reduced their PPG allowed by 10 points or something. While Brohm is improving their recruiting, not to the level where 9 brand-new guys are going to be good immediately.

Everything in today's media environment is immediate reaction, hot-take and that is the narrative forever. Since Purdue exceeded all expectations last year, Brohm is a genius. I do think he's a very good coach, but he walked in to a team with a lot of good athletes on defense that had been poorly coached by Hazell. Brohm is still the same good coach, but more difficult schedule and inexperience on defense means Boilers probably don't make a bowl.
Same could be said for Campbell and Iowa State. He goes 8-5 in his second year and one would think Iowa was playing the 1985 Bears on Saturday. Campbell is a good coach, but it takes time to see the true measure of a coach.

I completely agree ... AND, as others have noted ... he's not being helped by the stupid penalties by his star D-lineman.

I'm sure both ISU and Nebraska are both scrambling to find that 12 th game. They both could need it to reach 6 wins. Troy is not a gimme for UN.

The Purdue vs Nebraska game could potentially go either way if Martinez is still hurt. If Martinez is healthy ... then I see Purdue having to face 3 ridiculously contrasting offenses in consecutive weeks. That's a tough challenge for any D ... let alone one breaking in 9 new starters.

I see Illinois being the likely WIN for the Boilermakers ... but, even then, the fact that the Illini feature a mobile QB might make things more of a challenge for them.

Also, it's worth noting that BOTH the Nebraska and Illinois games are AWAY games.

Troy has a really good coach. However, they have to break in a new QB (along with a few other skill guys). My guess is that the pressure that the Husker D supplies will be tough for a new QB to prep for.

Northwestern has looked as bad early in the season as the Hawks ... likely even worse. Had Northwestern done a better job of containing Purdue's speed ... then that game ends up not being nearly that close. And that's even with Northwestern being far from a world-beater early in the season ....

Combine that with an increasing ignorance of history (even recent) and you have the formula for much of today's idiocy.

now...back to football.

Your right, it is a different team, so not the one that got stronger as the season progressed last year. We'll see of course.....

Yep, last year Brohm was the flavor of the day, and of course this year its Frost. We'll know more on each after three or four years, and a full recruiting cycle just what they are.......

Sophomore slump is real....

The Boilers aren’t dead and buried just yet. They have some talent but make a lot of dumb mistakes. I can see them ruining someone’s season if they become more disciplined.
