Sorry Iowan fans, what you see is what you get. Add to that, the fact that your AD just extended the contracts of both your football and basketball coaches. There is no good way out, because Iowa is so thrifty with its money, (think cheap), and can't afford to send them packing. Hey, the whole bunch of us in the West know the pinch of the budget. In the East, they'll spend anything it seems...not so here.

Yeah. Our brilliant AD locked up our old football coach for what reason I have no idea. It just baffles me that we did that? Where was KF going to go? Was he going to leave for the NFL (nope no team would hire him). Would he leave for another program in college (nope, no college team would hire him,). It just seems strange to lock him up for another 10 years. If he was 50yrs old and an up and coming football coach okay I can understand it. But the guy has been here for 18 years. He ain't leaving. KF agent and KF got a great payday. Too bad the hawks are going to have to suffer through 10 years of 7-5 or 6-6.
Basketball coach I am okay Fran. Has been improving the stock and got us to #4 last year. I don't know about this years team, but he has real eye for talent. A lot of the kids he has offered first have gone onto "blue blood" programs. He is slowly starting to turn a corner. He is starting to get at least 1-2 top 150 players in the nation. He is bringing the program back. I realize this year might be a step backwards, but he will get them improving.

Iowa is definitely not cheap. If it was, it wouldn't be paying a coach 4.5 mil a year. Trust me, if they wanted to do the buyout, they have the money.
Last year down the stretch there were people calling for his head saying he can't get teams to advance and blah blah blah.
Last years collapse was something strange, but I chalk it up to just too much pressure and teams scouted and figured out Iowa's game. Then when shots weren't falling it made it that more difficult. So it is what it is. I mean we got stomped in the 2nd round to the eventual NC, who basically took everyone they played outside of UNC to the woodshed.
I am happy for Fran and I hope this year the team steps up. Im not expecting much, but I think thy will be fun to watch.
