I saw this in the Economist a few months ago. Castrol is trying to perfect a way of changing the oil in your car more efficiently and in a much more friendly way to the environment. Essentially it's a cartridge with all the oil and a new filter in it that is replaced as one. Less mess, and no oil seeping into the ground from unscrupulous car shops. As the linked article mentions the process isn't entirely new, but making it work on your average car has been a challenge. Thoughts?

damnit why did I think of that?

actually, with a fumoto oil drain and an inverted filter it's pretty dang easy w/o mess
 
Less mess, and no oil seeping into the ground...
Why can't oil seep into the ground?

Seems like a chicken/egg problem. Until cars are manufactured to accommodate this system, there's no market for it.
