Last night on Hawk Talk Kirk said to Dolph, “Our guys are off tomorrow and will be in the building Friday.” Am I missing something here? Seems strange giving the team Thursday off. Could someone please explain.

I can only try to explain ... I really have no idea.

The team can only practice a certain number of days. Maybe it's to make sure they are fresh after some tough workouts the last weeks. IDK

Does "in the building" mean the football building or Wrigley?

I’m not sure. Kirk said they were looking to roll into Chicago around noon tomorrow.

Did Dave from Bettendorf call in and offer undying support for “coach” and then ask about 3rd string FB from Pleasant Valley and how he’s coming along?

Kirk has changed their practice habits over his time at Iowa. The team now practices in the morning and takes Thursday as their off day. Most teams still take Sunday or Monday as their off day, practice hard in pads through Thursday, and walk through and travel on Friday. I believe Iowa does rehab (run/lift/stretch) on Sunday before meetings, padded practice Mon-Wed, off Thursday, and walk-thru Friday morning and then travel. Its been this way for a few years now. They like it because it allows a whole day off for the players to recover closer to game time. Chip Kelly made a similar change when he was at Oregon and there are a few schools who some sort of variation on the traditional practice schedule.
