Chad Leistikow, of DM Register has a nice article, today talking about Sean Welsh perhaps
being Iowa's next Great success. The tradition is long and it just keeps rolling:

Currently, the NFL has, at least 10 former Hawkeyes on its rosters.

Of course, there's perennial All Pro Marshall Yanda at Baltimore.

Brandon Scherff - Redskins
Matt Tobin - Eagles
Riley Reiff- Lions
Andrew Donnal - Rams
Adam Gettis - Redskins
James Ferentz - Broncos
Bryan Bulaga- Packers
C Bofelli - Colts
J Vandevelde - Eagles

Of course, after this May's NFL draft, Jordan Walsh and Austin Blythe may also be
on NFL rosters.

The personal success is extremely impressive! To me, though, I'd give up all the pro accolades for having a great cohesive OLine that mauls people and opens holes for 1500 yard rushers and keeps the QBs protected. Iowa has had great success at putting guys in the pros at OL, but even when we've had an outland trophy winner, we've not had a dominant offensive line under Brian Ferentz. As a result, we haven't been close to having an all big 10 running back or a qb who didn't get sacked since Philbin left ages ago.

Well, I'll agree to DISAGREE. Last year's 12-0, Big10 West Championship wasn't won because of folks who pooh-poohed, on paper and the with their PieHoles running down fine, fine performances by the likes of Austin Blythe, Sean Welsh, Jordan Walsh, Cole Croston. No, it was WON and DONE by the hard work of Brian Ferentz and the aforementioned IOWA Offensive linemen.

Any College Football fan worth their salt, knows that KF and Brian produce Offensive Linemen as well as Anyone, ANYWhere.

Producing individuals and having a great overall OL are 2 different things. Iowa has had only 2 great Lines in KF era-2002 and when we had Doak Walker winner. Last year's was pretty good as have some other years, but there have been more than a few years of average or below

This is like one full offensive line group for an NFL squad. Pretty impressive.

According to ESPN, Iowa has 25 former players in the NFL.

The Cornholers have 23 or 24.
Sconny has 21, I think

And the IOWA HAWKEYES have more Offensive Linemen in the NFL than
lil brother has total players in the NFL, currently.

This. We've had some great individual offensive linemen, but it seems like frequently the collective group is less than the sum of its parts. Not sure why. Schemes?

Did you forget about shonn Greene 08' doak walker winning year without philbin here? Beathard not first but 2nd team all conference last season.

I don't think the group is less than the sum of its parts.

I think that, as a developmental program, Iowa is frequently starting one or two players who are still pretty early in the developmental curve, preventing the overall line from being awesome.

I like what has been occurring of late with the schemes. Sure seems like Iowa is pulling more lineman and using their athleticism more. Hopefully they can continue to gel, because it sure has looked like BF is trying new tricks. Iowa doesn't solve for gigantic dudes on the line, but they have translated very well to the pro systems.

I've often wondered ,with all of the success of getting linemen into the NFL, why does Iowa not get a larger share of the top linemen recruits? Not that Iowa doesn't get some of them; but one would think Iowa should be a top destination for the "blue chippers" if they want to work their way to the league.

Maybe not as many 'FRINGE' benefits as those 'available' at SEC schools and
Ohio??

I would pencil Blythe in as more than "may be on an NFL roster.

I will be amazed if he doesn't make a team, barring injury.

It seems a stretch to include Russell Wilson as a BADger since he did not graduate there.

He sure seems to consider himself a badger. I could list second team all-pro Travis Frederick instead if it makes you happy

How many yards rushing ya'll gain against Nebraska, Michigan State, and Stanford? Asking for a friend?

I'm not going to look up the stats, but I seem to remember picking up around 80 rushing yards on 2 plays in the Nebraska game. From there it was just run it up the gut and wait for Tommy to give us the ball back.

I agree. As successful as guys have been at the next level, I can't say the results have been great at the college level. "Outstanding" line play was evident Gallery's Senior year, but I can't say even when Greene was a Doak Walker winner, the line play was very good.
