Hawkeye Soccer: Officially Top Ten - #9 in official NCAA Coaches Poll, #7 in Computer Rankings. Best start ever.

@billanole, you see this? Good news for both FSU and the Iowa, especially after our Hawks went into Columbus and got a result against the Buckeyes last night. Again, the 2-0 result was actually flattering to WF that night. The Hawks SHOULD have won by 3 or 4 at least, but our finishing wasn't the greatest. We were already up to #12 with the computers, and this is only going to help...

My best friend's daughter plays soccer for Wake. She's dating Cooper Flagg.

Why no updates?

1:01 PSU goal 1-0
4:16 GOOOAAAL Iowa 1-1 (Sofia Bush)
30:06 GOOOOOAAAAL Iowa 2-1 (Maya Hansen)

EDIT:
Half: 2-1 Hawks

Enjoying it too much! Hope we can hold it down.

Bush’s goal was a top corner riser from distance. Meike Ingles had both assists, btw.

Iowa is legit. And I’m trying to figure out how WF is rated higher when we already beat them.
The coaches polled are hurting us because of the 1-1 draw at Western Michigan. WMU hardly had a chance and Enneking just got caught off her line from distance. Computer polls don’t punish you as much for road draws. And Wake took down a number 1, and they’re a blue blood.
Dilani is a great coach. His record at GVS was ridiculous.
He is. He was a great hire. I’m getting a little worried that he’ll be hired away by a blue blood like an FSU one day, now that his youngest graduated City High. Pretty sure he loves IC though.

Yeah, she couldn’t ever quite win the top spot between the pipes for FSU. Brian Penske has been a bit more liberal in subbing at goal, but Mark Krikorian mostly went all game with a single keeper.
I don’t remember stats, but Mia was solid in limited minutes for us.
Here’s hoping for a strong showing this year by the Hawks!

Yeah mine were playing with another girl. There were Hawks from another girls team laughing at my kids running around with pencils in their hands, screaming, throwing water bottles and of course, tackling. I had to leave with 10 min left. I wasn't going to let them annoy everyone any longer.

We were laughing that high school soccer games are mostly $5. Heck, I coach our junior high team (since it's in the fall) and one of our opponents are charging this year... for junior freaking high.

Let’s go Hawks! Big win.

Hope I can get to a game sometime this year.

New RPI dropped, so new thread title. One spot behind FSU. ‘Noles #5, Hawkeyes #6…

You’ve gotta love this swagger. Maya is a grad transfer as the all-time career goal leader at South Dakota State, and is on a tear: goal in consecutive games vs ISU, Ohio State, and now Penn State…

Can't wait to somehow drop in the human rankings again! Literally the only blemish on the record was the draw with central (or western?) Michigan. Other than that, it's been all good stuff.

Well, we do have to win at Northwestern tomorrow. But yeah, going to Columbus and getting a 1-1 draw at Ohio State should have raised us. Just shows that the computer is smarter than the coaches.

I still don’t know how a coach can say Iowa beat WF and hasn’t lost… but let’s rank them behind the team they easily beat no matter who they beat.

Correct. But my point stands as evidenced in the previous post as well.
The old guard is slow to realize what the non-conference meetings have shown the last couple years: the traditional power of the ACC is not as deep as the B1G has become. The mathematical formulas don’t factor in that Iowa isn’t a blue blood. At the end of the day, keep winning and it will sort itself out.

BTW, if we want to win the B1G title again, it’s going to have to be over the NCAA #1 with both humans and computers: Sparty.

A big ten title would be awesome but having two home NCAA games would be better.

Magical season continues. Gave up an early second half goal, but countered with two in the second half, including a goal in the final two minutes. Lauren Gezcik, the TX A&M transfer. Hello, Top 15. Top 10? They’ll stay around #6 with the computers.

I just got done with my own game. Slowly scrolled twitter to see their PK (I am following NW as well because a former player I coached played for them). Thought oh man this sucks...

Then kept scrolling to see the other 2 goals.

Go Hawks!

Sorry, FSU is the real #1. Now that the U20 tournament is over we’ll get 6 starters back and will dominate. Again.

Did not realize that winner in the dying moments was an Olimpico, a goal directly from a corner:

Coaches’ poll drops tomorrow afternoon, but we are #7 in the computer rankings, but up a whopping ten spots to #14 in the Top Drawer Soccer writer’s rankings….

We were already at number 18 with the coaches poll, So it’s very possible we are sniffing the top 10.

Iowa volleyball lost to St Thomas, MN last week. It’s my old alma mater and they went from D3 to D1 a couple years ago. Embarrassing

Damn, I wish we had mens soccer
For those that think we couldn’t be competitive, Wisconsin has a national championship in men’s soccer in the modern era and are currently ranked #2 in the nation. Schools like Akron, Marshall, Indiana, Maryland, and Clemson have all won national championships in the last 15 years.

FWIW many years ago a athletic employee told me that the only way Iowa would ever add men's soccer would be if a donor made a large donation to basically cover the operating costs off the interest. I think I said something like how possible is that and the response was you'd have more luck winning the lottery and making the donation yourself.

Oh, that is absolutely true. I’m not arguing with that at all. Just saying that we could be competitive.

Wisconsin home this Thursday, then our last tough test of the regular season at #15 Rutgers Sunday. Win both and it pretty much locks up NCAA tournament home dates…
