Hawkeyes deserved better . . .

. . . After that record comeback, but Tenn kept getting most of the calls, and along with Iowa making some mistakes, they still fell short.

I wonder if Iowa will ever win a game because it got the benefit of biased or incompetent officiating? It hasn't happened since I've been paying attention, and that's measured in decades. It must be nice though.

Anyway, what a tremendous second-half effort by the Hawkeyes against a team that, as much as I hate them, I hope goes on to win the national title. Tenn has been lucky so far. Maybe that will continue for them.

The Hawkeyes were so close to pulling this thing out, but where were they in the first half? Tenn is Michigan State in different colored jerseys. Iowa knew the Vols would come out and play like it was a rugby match, not a basketball game. Yet Iowa played timid and scared. That's incredible, especially when you see what happened when they turned it on in the second half.

In the end, it's just one more in the long, long, long string of heartbreaking losses in Iowa Hawkeye sports history.

Well the season was full of ups and down so truly nothing to see.
Next year will be allot of the same unless he got some amazing point guards coming in

We did win at UNC once when Roy Marble stole Ed Horton's free throws at the end of the game. Some would argue Woodbury pushed off against Temple on the winning basket more recently.

And if we include football, the "facemask" on Desmond King's punt return set up the winning kick vs Michigan two years ago.

I don't think any of those was biased, but definitely wasn't A plus officiating in two of those cases (Woody gets a pass there since they'd never call that).

The 3 pt shooting foul called by the referee that benefited Iowa was a HUGE gift at one of the most important times in the game. It was clearly an incorrect call, and Iowa made the most out of it.
Iowa had it chances bu mounting a pretty spectacular comeback after a very poorly played first half, and it missed them. Great season for Iowa, nearly advanced to the Sweet 16, but Iowa shouldn't look anywhere but inward after this loss.

Minus the blue bloods who have built in advantages, including officiating, every team in the country has fans who feel like the officials screwed them when you lose. Yes, this includes Iowa State. I try to avoid this mentality. It is a loser mentality. You have to adjust to officiating and fight through bad calls. Although it is hard to watch games sometimes and wonder "how in the hell is that a foul (or the opposite)". In the end, I think calls tend to even out and NEVER will believe one call determines the outcome of a game. There are possessions in the first 5 minutes (for example) that count too. We just tend to focus on the last 5 minutes or so.

I wont go as far to believe there is a conspiracy dictated by CBS, ESPN, or the NCAA. At the same time it does seem that Izzo, Coach K, Royboy at UNC get calls that McCaffrey and Prohm don't. Maybe its because they have better, more athletic players? Maybe TV wants Duke in the Final Four instead of Liberty?

I get really tired of the crying about officiating. Physical game. Tennessee shot 23 FT's, we shot 32. Tennessee was called for 7 more fouls than Iowa. Bohannon got an absolute gift on that call late to get 3 FT's, absolutely not a foul there, clean block. My one beef is that I thought TN got away with too much hand checking on Bohannon out on the perimeter. Officiating didn't cost them the game, a dog crap first half performance did.

Showed a lot of character with the comeback to force OT, but if you don't get down 25 in the 1st half you don't need a miracle comeback.

Their were missed calls on both sides but sure seemed that Tenn was allowed to be more physical. If this game is not a wakeup call on how you have to play 40 minutes all the time with intensity I don't know what is. Next year will be interesting with the roster and minutes distribution.

Anyone who would argue the opposite is blind.

The double foul was terrible. I think Jordan was trying
To set the tone and the official missed the first push.
The bad calls against us: hack job on kreiner going to the hole.
The non call on the travel kick out three for Tennessee to start ot.

Bohannan would disagree after being hand-checked all game. Other missed fouls and travel calls against Tennessee MORE than off-set that one 3 point foul against Bohannan. In any event, was nice to not see Nebby again in the tourney.

Looking at our season on its whole...we beat the PAC 12, Big 12 and AAC tournaments champions, we took an SEC team that at one time was ranked Number 1 in the nation to overtime, plus beat Michigan and who knows where they end up. The B1G was by far the best conference this year and we were mid-pack in the conference. Yes, it was frustrating but we had some good wins and some losses that caused us a ton of angst. On to next year and the guys can use this tournament loss for motivation..

Go all the way to the title lady Hawks!

I've been watching and going to Iowa football and Basketball games since 1954 and can only remember one game that I thought the refs cost us the game. That was the bowl game against Florida in the early 2000s.

January 2, 2006 - Tampa, Fl

That was a great trip, but a miserable, helpless feeling watching that game. That is still the only bowl game I’ve ever been to.

My gripe about basketball officiating isn't so much it's biased as it is inconsistent. No matter what game your watch or who is playing what is called on one end is not always called on the other.

UT got more calls than the Hawks, but I have seen a lot worse. They seemed to be giving Williams star treatment, which is usually reserved for the NBA. He is a great player, one of the best in the country, so he shouldn't need help from the zebras.

Agreed. Also, inconsistent from one point of the game to another. More often than not, something that is called a foul in the second half had been going on since the beginning of the game. They pick and choose when to enforce certain rules.

The hand checking bothered me. Overall, officials this year that I've seen generally call a couple of those early (if necessary) and it takes care of the problem. Why they didn't yesterday is on them. But they didn't cost us the game.

I was proud of the way we played yesterday but still wonder about next year. When Tyler Cook sits down with the NBA evaluators, he will show them the stream of the first 5 minutes of the 2nd half of yesterday's game. The evaluators will then show him the entire first half and the discussion probably ends. Isaiah Moss...... likely same brief non-discussion as last year.

Couldn’t say it any better.
