What can the Hawkeyes do, offensively to get a good start, this weekend against the
Wildcats?

What would you 'Go to' first if you're Brian Ferentz?

The Northwestern LBs will be coming hard downhill against the run ... use the TEs to "loosen up" the LBs. Also, mix use of the RBs in order to give the NW D a little more to think about ... also, the contrasting styles are more likely to "wear down" a D too.

Agree with homer - use Hockenson and Fant right away ....and keep using them if they fail to adjust. Also, let's see Wadley and/or IKM on a swing pass or two.

Stanley has to be able complete a pass in the first 3 series of a game. He's been going something like 1-8 to start games.

Quick slant from I formation to start the game. They'll be crashing gaps eager to crush the run. Should leave space for a pass over the middle.

Test them deep early and often. Good things happen against NW when we are running an explosive offense.

To start the game use Toren Young with Wadley split out. Take the pressure off Wadley because Northwestern will want to shut him down right from the get go.

KOK needs to pull out the old notebook and show Brian the jailbreak screen, aka, The Play That Cannot Be Stopped.

That, and use pass to set up the run.
Or that little flare pass they throw to MeerKat or Easley, essentially a running play but if the other WR gets one block, it's usually good for 5-7 yards. Also RUN MORE out of 3 WR sets. No Austin Carr this time around, still can't believe we refused to double him last year at Kinnick.

Agree that we should push Northwestern vertically ... they're far more exploitable through the air this year than on the ground. However, with that said, it would be advantageous to try to get Stanley in a rhythm early before we start having him attempt to execute low-percentage plays.

First play of the game PA GO route for ISM and tell him it's coming pre game so he gets off the line like a cheetah on 6 cups of coffee. So many good things could come from this, the least of which is they have to think about it the rest of the game. We are due on one of those long balls and starting the game off with a punch to their teeth could pay dividends.

I agree, and they need to 'slip' the FB (Kulick) out of the backfield. Opposing D's are not even accounting for the FB in their man coverage most of the time which allows them bring a safety up and send him. We've had success doing it (Kulick had a big catch against NW a couple years ago) in the past, but they seem to forget about the FB in the passing game anymore, and we have a really good receiver at FB.

Option A) PA "da bomb" to ISM.
Option B) PA to a TE
Option C) pass into the flat for Drake and let him bulldoze one of their lb'ers.

Play Action 999. Wadley release in the Center safety valve, Run it three times in a row.

Can't be any worse then running the Stretch twice, and quick out on 3rd and 7. Loosen them up, be a little unpredictable. Can't hurt.

In fact, repeat this until Stanley starts dialing in his long ball.
