New Story ***Hawkeyes land LB Jestin Jacobs***

If you talk to people who seem to know (not coaches...and I claim no inside knowledge) Jack Campbell has as good a chance to have a hand in the dirt as staying at linebacker. Not that height is a limiting factor, but he is already 6'5". Some think he'll be a lineman eventually. Maybe 2 more backers taken yet if the right ones?

I too claim 0 knowledge but with 20 linebackers(or whatever it was) on the roster I have to think they are safe there unless there is a guy they REALLY LIKE. (AKA THEY GET KISER AND HENRICH)

Or, perhaps some guys start to transfer out. Not my hope, but it does happen.

LBs:
Weiland, Mends, Colbert, Welch, Wade, Doyle, Campos, Ludwig, Andersen, Hockaday, Niemann, Jones, Taylor, Benson, Evans, Klemp, McDonald, Riggs, Timm

Hockaday, Mends = seniors
LBs make great candidates for other positions: Wade at rb if not in mix? Some fit FB? DT?

I have no idea but maybe there's always room for the right guy.

I feel like the coaches are doing a really good job at keeping these verbals on the low down..............I wasn't even sure who this kid was and normally keep up on kids that I think we have a super good chance at. When I saw this kids offer list and film I was like NIIIIICCCCCCEEEEE! Huge get that came out of nowhere (at least for me).

I agree, I think we are going to see some serious attrition here shortly. It isnt pleasant to talk about but the facts are it needs to happen to get more talent on the roster. Part of running with the big dogs is doing what the big dogs do. I would never advocate for "your not going to play you need to leave" but think there is going to be some serious. "You have been here for 2-3 years and have not moved up if your goal is to get on the field you might want to consider all options" its ugly, but its CFB 2018.

A number of the listed LBs are walk-ons. Also, Ludwig had been practice at fullback during the spring. As you indicated, LBs are great candidates for position changes AND they're also a great body-type when it comes to contributing to special teams.

Good point homer. I think we will be pretty good at special teams moving forward if they can convince the majority of those guys to stick with it and not occupy a scholly. If I remember correctly we had a few guys turn down really good "lesser" schools to walk on. The riggs kid stands out.

I think he, like I and I'm guessing many others, are wondering how "JJ" gets you to "Ironman".

So he doesn't know how to communicate as an adult like you? From his capacity to reply I can believe it.
To answer your question:
1) Really?
2) Ironmen and Hawkeyes?
3) Ironman = strong hero?
4) Blair's post literally has Ironman in it?

Btw, "many others". I'll give many others a little more credit and assume most don't care and the few who do understand the meaning isn't worth the time to critically analyze it.

No....Blair’s post had Tony Stark in it.....before he became Ironman....just sayin. ;)

Northmont is a good team in Ohio D1, same conference as Wayne (Ahmed Wagner)....lost in playoffs last year to Pickerington Central. Great pickup, like to see them get more from Ohio

FABULOUS FANTASTIC LAND! Great size and could definitely fill out to play different positions at Iowa.. he definitely has the frame for it .. but looks to be a super land and I am extremely impressed with this recruit as well as the 6’4 receiver we landed the other day.. good size and speed I am unsure of but definitely a great pickup!

Hawkeyes land Ohio LB Jestin Jacobs

Ohio linebacker Jestin Jacobs committed to the Iowa Hawkeyes today.

The Iowa Hawkeyes have landed one of their top targets at linebacker, Jestin Jacobs. Today, the 6-foot-4, 205-pound Ohio native made the call and gave his verbal commitment to Iowa linebackers coach Seth Wallace and the Hawkeye coaching staff.

"I chose Iowa because I was beyond impressed with the way they recruited me," Jacobs told HawkeyeReport.com after announcing his decision. "Coach Wallace and Coach Parker presented themselves as great people and coaches."

"When I took my unofficial visit, I did not know what to expect, but I was blown away by the people and facilities around the program," said Jacobs. "I have a great feeling about the school. I feel they will push me to be the best player and person I can be."

This month, Jacobs narrowed his choices down to Iowa, Northwestern, Michigan State, Purdue, Kentucky, Cincinnati, and Iowa State with plans to visit each school one more time over the summer before deciding. However, after his latest conversation with Iowa, the three-star prospect decided there was no reason to wait any longer.

"Over the past week, I’ve talked to the coaches a lot and I felt like this was the right decision and there was no need to wait," Jacobs said.

In addition to his seven finalists, Jacobs also held scholarship offers from Nebraska, Missouri, Georgia Tech, Boston College, Duke, Pittsburgh, Minnesota, Rutgers, Indiana, and Vanderbilt, among others.

Overall, Jacobs is commitment No. 8 for the Hawkeyes in 2019 as he joins Desmond Hutson, Sebastian Castro, Logan Lee, Ezra Miller, Tyler Endres, Noah Fenske, and Jack Campbell in Iowa's recruiting class.

As a junior last year, Jacobs finished the season with 74 tackles and 13 TFL at Northmont High School in Clayton, OH. With good size and speed, he has the ability to play inside or outside linebacker in college.

See highlights from Jacobs’ junior year at Northmont in the video below.

I love our coaches ability to identify and recruit guys on the defensive side of the ball.

I can’t wait to see the Doylized version of Jestin.

It just makes me feel like these guys are building toward something B1G.

I don't see how they could turn down any of Kiser, Henrich, Dixon or Eichenberg. Eichenberg is an amazing prospect, watch his vid. They could take two more and that would almost guarantee Campbell with his hand on the ground. Which might happen regardless.

Weird to say for a defensive recruit, but he has great "vision" for a player. Sheds blocks while dissecting the play well.

Looks a lot like Kirksey but maybe a bit more fluid. Could be a crazy DE if they wanted to really add weight.

'Whoa, dick much? And unless I'm not reading the correct story, I don't see where Blair has Ironman in it. But as I said, maybe I'm not reading the right story or missing how this lad's name translates in to Ironman.

The player hasn't committed anywhere yet. He's told the Iowa coaches that he's coming here. The actual commitment comes on NSD when he faxes in his signed LOI. Until then, it's just message board fodder.
Be positive kid says he's committed to iowa I'm Sold

Hoping you're right. Does he have a offer from OSU yet? I haven't seen one..we'll see if/when Meyer comes callin how committed he is to Iowa. Almost 10 months to go...unless he signs early.

Obviously looks like a fit at outside linebacker. But middle linebacker wouldnt surprise me either. Would be a rangy guy with long arms, sheds really well. Similar build to Paddy Fisher from Northwestern.

Two high end linebacker recruits plus Campbell and Doyle. You have to like what Parker is building on defense.

Fisher came in at NW at over 230. We know what Doyle can do for guys in the weight room, but Jacobs has some work to do to have a similar build to Fisher. I like Jacobs tape. He's adept at making it to the ball unscathed. I would definitely keep him outside and unfortunately depending on OSU's class and the type of season Jacobs has they could come calling for the home stater. Hope hes a real hard commit!

If everything pans out think about this. The athleticism of McDonald ('18) and Jacob's ('19) on the outside with The thump/knowledge from being raised around the program of doyle ('18) in the middle. There is alot of ground between now and then but that's a LB crew right there. As far as the "it's only a verbal" sure we could get left at the alter, but that's a pretty wimpy mindset. Wiscy just had a stud WR decommit, when your on top its "thier" (the kids) loss.

He is literally committed. When the LOI comes in, he’ll be signed.

Or why Jestin Jacobs would be in consideration for "Outlaw".

That's a legit complaint. The wording was poor. Basically I was suggesting he was another Josey Jewel. Apparently that "triggered" some people wanting to read something negative into the post.

Thank you Jestin for choosing the Hawkeyes from your impressive list of college offers. You are exactly the type of athlete that thrives in the Iowa program. I could not be happier with you playing for our school and our conference. Thanks again!

The signed LOI faxed in is the commitment. As it stands now he's simply told the Iowa coaches he's coming there. There's no commitment whatsoever in that.

He is committed. Will he follow through with a signature? Sometimes commitments are broken. In your definition, a commitment can only be determined after the fact. Jestin, for example, has committed, or promised to take a scholarship offer from Iowa. It is possible he’ll break that promise, but not likely.

Iowa signs approximately 90% of their verbal commitments. Fans on this board act like verbal commitments mean nothing. When a kid commits to Iowa, it is highly likely he’ll sign in February. It takes a pretty pessimistic fan to act like something that has 90% chance of happening isn’t worth acknowledging.

If commitments you have made or have been given in your life are followed through at 100% rate, then you are lucky, and an amazing human being. If it is even 90% you’re doing great.

Jestin is likely going to be a Hawkeye, and I consider that a cause for celebration.

No, he is committed. Doesn't mean he can't back out of his commitment (people do in football and life in general all the time), but he is committed. There is no paperwork needed to show commitment. I committed to watch my nephews baseball game this weekend, I hope I am allowed to back out.

He has committed to the Iowa Football program. He will be signed with his LOI. Not sure why this is so hard for some people or why semantics need to be brought into everything.

**Edit** Looks like Birky beat me by a minute.
