After considering more than 30 scholarship offers from around the country, four-star cornerback Chevin Calloway has made his college decision. The top 100 prospect out of Dallas, Texas plans to attend the University of Iowa and play in the Big Ten for the Hawkeyes next year. The 5-foot-10, 180-pound Calloway made the announcement on Twitter this evening.

“With the great alumni, environment, genuine people, and the comfort level of being with the coaches, I loved it from the start,” Calloway told HawkeyeReport.com. “It’s great academically, developing and preparing players for the NFL and life after football, having an over 81% graduation rate.”

“They also have great coaching stability and make players their absolute best,” he continued. “With Coach Parker putting at least 1 DB in the league 11 out of the past 17 years he's been coaching, it's hard to beat that.”

Calloway’s decision comes three weeks after a visit to Iowa City, which allowed him to learn more about the Hawkeye program and get to know the coaches and players, including Jim Thorpe Award winner Desmond King.

“I think it meant a lot to talk to him and for him to talk about how much he had developed into a great player and person there,” Calloway said of King. “I can see how they really made him into something great.”

After the 2016 season, Iowa will graduate both King and Greg Mabin, their current starters at cornerback, leaving the competition wide open when Calloway is set to arrive on campus in 2017.

“I think I have a strong possibility of starting my freshman year,” said Calloway.

An Under Armour All-American, Calloway is currently ranked as the No. 89 prospect in the nation by Rivals.com. The four-star recruit chose the Hawkeyes over scholarship offers from Alabama, Arizona State, Arkansas, Auburn, Baylor, California, Colorado, Duke, Illinois, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Missouri, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oregon State, Texas, Texas A&M, Tech Tech, TCU, UCLA, and Wisconsin, among others.

Overall, Calloway is commitment No. 15 for the Hawkeyes in the Class on 2017 and the 5th from the state of Texas as he joins Eno Benjamin, Peyton Mansell, Gavin Holmes, and Matt Hankins. The Iowa coaches are also still after Calloway’s teammate at Bishop Dunne High School, defensive tackle Damion Daniels, along with a couple other recruits in the Dallas area as the Hawkeyes try to keep the pipeline going.

This is AWESOME.

I know many people here love to celebrate low level recruits that no other good teams want. Bob Sanders is my favorite Hawkeye. But for every Bob Sanders there are 30 stiffs who hurt your team. If you want to win championships you need to have some talent.

Great news!

Thanks for calling them stiffs.

Thanks for calling them stiffs.

Ok. I'"m sorry . They are wonderful young people who aren't great at football. Is that ok?

We've recruited a llot of people who aren't capable of playing at this level. Are you saying that this is a false statement?

Yeah.....I thought that was a pretty crappy way to describe the excitement of gaining a great new addition to an already great class. Should always be proud of every athlete that commits to Iowa, and represents well. Regardless of playing time, all conference honors, won-loss record, etc. Go Hawks!!

From 2010 through 2014 I was a harsh critic of much the Ferentz program was and was not doing. But fair is fair: When Iowa collects the level of recruits they are this year, somebody's doing something right. As others have noted, this young man seems to be not only a terrific football player but a kid who has his head on straight. Nobody knows how the football thing will pan out, but this commitment looks awesome. As Blair noted: "The four-star recruit chose the Hawkeyes over scholarship offers from Alabama, Arizona State, Arkansas, Auburn, Baylor, California, Colorado, Duke, Illinois, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Missouri, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Oregon State, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, TCU, UCLA, and Wisconsin, among others."

Wow. Just wow. :)

And with this Texas connection continuing, ya know ole Hayden Fry is smilin'.

Yep. For as much grief as the staff took for the last few years up to 2015, one thing is true -- they sure can coach 'em up. They just need to get them to Iowa City. Give Iowa a top 15 QB, two top 30 DL, and 20 mid to high 3 stars, keep them in the program for 4 years, and they will win.

^ Someone PLEASE photoshop the above photo with our current Texas boys... and then leave two faces blank as if to say "who's next?" lol

I'm no expert on recruiting, but if I had to guess I would think winning and relationships are the two most important factors. Winning happened last year and within a year you can feel the excitement of the program on all fronts, especially recruiting. I have heard the staff has been putting time in Texas for a while building relationships with coaches, schools and kids and it is paying off. Arguably the most important relationships are to have the foundation of a guy like AJ and others who committed early and then a vocal recruiter like Eno Benjamin. It is clear Calloway researched and thought hard on his decision but it certainly helped having the connections with all those Dallas recruits. I love that they are embracing the "texas to Iowa" and "Swarm '17" tag

Having outstanding athletes that are great ambassadors for the program-Dez King- returning from last year's outstanding year, is also a great benefit when it comes to recruiting. Not slighting anyone else that is returning, just noticed Calloway's and other recruits mentioning the returning Thorpe Award winner.

Don't under estimate the facilities contribution.
