One week after turning in an impressive performance at Iowa’s camp, quarterback Alex Padilla has a new scholarship offer from the Hawkeyes. The 6-foot-1, 191-pound Colorado native received the news from Iowa quarterbacks coach Ken O’Keefe this evening.

“Coach O’Keefe called me a little bit ago and told me that they wanted to offer me a scholarship,” said Padilla. “I’m really blown away.”

Padilla was in Iowa City a week ago for Iowa’s first camp of the summer where he backed up what the Hawkeye coaching staff saw on film from his junior year, which saw him throw for 2,678 yards and 40 touchdowns at Cherry Creek High School in Greenwood Village, CO.

“They said that they’re excited about me and that I impressed them on my game film and in person at the camp,” Padilla said. “They’re hoping to get me to come on an official visit later this month.”

That will likely be for Iowa’s big June 22nd official visit weekend, which will include many of the Hawkeyes’ top targets and their current commits. While Padilla still has to finalize all the details, right now it is a trip that he plans to take if possible.

“I just probably want to see a little more of the campus and meet some of the players and students that go there,” said Padilla. “I’ve seen the football facilities, which are incredible, so just more of what it’s like to be a student there.”

Currently, Padilla holds scholarship offers from Iowa, Colorado State, Nevada, Central Michigan, North Texas, Cornell, Columbia, Dartmouth, Penn, Yale, South Dakota, and Northern Colorado.

Without trying to sound too harsh...doesn't look like we're talking about a B1G level prospect here. Obviously an intelligent individual by some of the offers, but this might be the year to pass on a scholly qb.

0 stars, and poor offer list. I just dont get it. Fwiw that probably means he will be our next Chuck Long.
Maybe the kid blows up now. Camps are what got Oliver Martin noticed, and seems to be the same here. Hopefully Harbaugh doesn't get wind of this kid and throw a slumber party for him.

When it comes to QBs, Harbog is apparently a renter. So no worries.

The Iowa coaches liked what they saw on tape and in person.

Exactly who's opinion are you suggesting they should follow?

Just my 2 cents..... Iowa is trying to land at least a very capable QB for this class and bring into the program. I believe Petras and Mansell are still going to have to wait another year before Stanley is done at Iowa. Hopefully Petras will be able to redshirt this year. Petras has the qualities of what could be a high level B1G QB. Kind of hard to draw another into a non-blue blood program, year after year with any NFL big names from your program.

Padilla is an acceptable compromise that Iowa can use in the program. The Iowa offer is a huge step up the D-1 chain. Seems like Iowa is losing out on some better QB recruits because Iowa's has a lot of youth at the position right now. Most of these QB guys are not going to play right away as they need to learn the system of their respective programs (Captain Obvious returns). It is funny to look at the history of the Elite 11 annual competitions and player accolades and to see after a couple of years that only one or two of those elite finalists ever make a big splash at your initial program and/ or is ever drafted by the NFL. Personally, the Elite 11 is fodder for arena league football and video games.

Even if Stanley has an All-B1G Season (or 2nd team for that matter) , he could probably use a true senior year for pro developmental stature. NFL teams pay big money for those guys who can play much sooner and not clipboard QBs. Bill Parcells hated drafting QBs without a large resume of starts.

Iowa should be able to offer and land maybe another 4 star in 2020 class. Let's get our QB and focus on Brock and Bell (Really want WR David Bell).

I'm excited, maybe I don't have an eye like the rest of you, but I see a kid who seems to get the ball out well, not panic when pressured and some of his highlights was against Colorado powerhouse Valor Christian.

I'd guess his lack of offers are simply due to size. There are plenty of successful, smaller QBs in college football. Not worried if earned the offer after camping.

5 Ivy league offers! Life after football... go east young man.

Yes for God sakes! Unless you are sure you are the next Drew Brees, go to the Ivy League and make the connections for free. Maybe you still get drafted out of there. You just will never be on tv.

So...leverage your skills into an ivy league education with football as a side project... or likely play backup and a leadership role on a big time Big Ten squad and still get a fine education. (Who knows, maybe he wants to pursue a Medical career)

Kid has some nice options, he can't lose.

I'd have him at 5.6. Clearly he was under the radar before his ranking. He got a Mich harder look after receiving an offer from us. Could be KOK, but also hadn't gotten much pub with his other offers.

News flash, don't need to get on TV to make alot of money.

After watching his tape, I don't understand what people are criticizing. He's got a gun. What exactly do folks see that they don't like....just his offer list?

These guys both have "guns" and are 4-5 inches taller and 30-40 pounds heavier.

This guy is roughly the same height, has a "gun" and look at the mobility

I really dont mean to poo poo this kid, I just think he will be a distant 4th in the QB room and may be the reason someone transfers as opposed to skipping a class and creating a hole for a 2020 stud.

Could be the next Carson Wentz or could be the next distant 4th, time will tell!

Let us not forget this kid hasnt even verballed to the Hawks yet. As far as we know coach X from blue blood U is going to get fired prior to signing day and we could end up with another Petras situation.

Cmon now, you can't have it both ways. If he is a distant 4th in the QB room, and we recruit a stud in 2020 then "the stud" will not be concerned about coming in behind him and Stanley will be gone. Futhermore IF Mansel gets passed by Petras, (I said IF), then he probably won't be here by 2020 either. I'll stick with my ongoing argument. Bring in one QB in every class, and let the playing time be decided on the field. Now is this "The Guy" we need to give this years ship too? We don't know that yet. This will be a tough class to fill one, because of the depth chart you mentioned, but I still want a guy because of the attrition so prevalent for college QB's now.

I'm implying we get the stud by selling the hole that would be 2019.
Dont get me wrong a stud isnt going to be afraid of the competition. I do think this new transfer rule eliminates the crash and burn scenerio everyone points to as to why a qb is needed in every class. We are going to see a few blue chips transfer out of blue blood U every year because they are in a qb room full of blue chips. Iowa has alot to be able to sell those guys if they embrace that market.

Maybe but thats a crap shoot. IF, you land the transfer. IF, somebody really good is on the market, the year you really need someone. IF, the guy comes in and fits right into your program. Remember this guy your talking about has already been at a good program, and evidently didn't win the starting job, or had some other issue. Maybe this stud is just overated. (See Michigan's performance to this point with all these transfer QB's).

Creek is a powerhouse and has been for a long time. That school is huge close with over 3k kids going there.

Fair enough. Now could you provide a example that would involve a 4th string QB playing without 1 year of scramble time that doesnt involve a massive amount of Ifs? The only one I can come.up with is an incoming freshman beating out everyone in the QB room.
