Just spoke to Wisconsin native Kristian Welch, who picked up an offer from Iowa after his performance at camp today. At 6-foot-4 and 212 pounds, he ran a 4.52 forty today, and then worked out at both TE and LB and really impressed the coaches.

Iowa's offer is just as an athlete right now with the possibility of playing inside LB, outside LB, TE, or maybe even DE in college. I asked Welch which position he prefers and he said he's always liked catching touchdowns since he was a little kid, so if they left it up to him, he'd picked TE to start but is open to playing anywhere.

Iowa is the first major offer for Welch as the Hawkeyes join Bowling Green, Illinois State, North Dakota, North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Southern Illinois, and Western Illinois on his list. Getting his first Big Ten program offer left him and his family "jumping for joy" Welch said.

So far this month, Welch has been to camps at Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. Up next, he has North Dakota State, and Northern Illinois. After that, he hopes to take an academic visit to some of the schools he's interested in and then sees himself making a decision sometime this fall.
