Hawks add to ‘23 recruiting class

Looking at his results last year he got pinned by a MN state champ and lost in SV to another ND state champ. Not Ryder Block caliber but still a good wrestler and seems to be a great kid who loves God, wrestling and the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Think the very recent Montana recruits.

But you need them too.

I follow North Dakota high school wrestling a little. I’d be surprised if Koye ever finds his way into the starting lineup for the Hawks, but if there’s a kid who can do it it’s him. Phenomenal work ethic, outstanding young man. I just think his height will limit him at the D1 level. I was hoping NDSU could convince him to walk on but if it is his dream to wrestle for Iowa I can’t fault him.

Well, if he loves God he better head to Penn State then.
Wait, which God does he love?

Every guy in the room is important. Everyone has a role, from the national champs on down. Welcome and best wishes to Koye. Congrats on realizing a dream of being an Iowa wrestler. In the big picture, there are darn few people in the world who can ever claim to have been one.

Brands need to quit trying to change what these guys come in with and just add our toughness and aggressiveness. Not all guys can do what they did. Actually very few. They are big for their weights and weight cutting was different. There is more finesse in the high caliber athletes. They need to adapt. I thin Kem, young and Marinelli regressed trying to fit the Iowa style vs adding it to how the had been trained. I say this having been on the team under Gable who was a master at knowing what guys needed. Example Lou Banach needing a day off maybe only 3-4 days of practice. Rico needing to add the Iowa intensity to HIS style.

One good thing about starters sitting so many matches these days is that a lot of backups get to realize their dream of wrestling at Carver for the Hawks.

Id really like to see them return to the 'extra matches' model they did a couple years ago.
Doesn't seem like much downside.
