The Wave has been such a bright spot and feel-good story for UI but I was so disappointed to see that our team does not actually participate. All the fans, Minnesota team and officials did. I understand and appreciate that our players volunteer at the hospital but am dismayed (and frankly embarrassed) that they can't take 10 seconds to join in this fantastic traditiin.

Well, it’s bern the highlight of Iowa Football 2017 and our own team doesn’t participate.
And anyone calling the post “retarded” is the one who needs adjustments.

"Oh, hey fans, Iowa football team here. Yeah, so since we spend so much time with the kids all year round, we really don't see the need to take a whole 5 seconds and wave to the kids along with everyone else in the stadium. Take care, see you next Saturday. P.S. our offense is definitely closer to clicking now. Hang tight!"

They shouldn't wave. They should be getting ready for the 2nd quarter. Other team can do what they want.
Yes, because that 5 seconds they could have wasted waving means all the difference between winning and losing.

Sure, the coaches and players spend a lot of time with kids in the hospital throughout the year, but probably not with the ones who happen to be there NOW. I bet there are kids/parents looking down and noticing the Iowa players and coaches are not waving. It looks bad.

Fire Ferentz.

Fire Ferentz.
Don’t be ridiculous.

I don’t care how much time they spend with the kids the rest of the year, it looks bad when everyone participates but them. The kids and parents see this, and you can bet some of them are wondering why the Hawks are not doing it.

Trust me, taking 5 seconds to wave is not going to cost them a football game.

If Iowa's players and coaches waved, they would at least have done something to make showing up at Kinnick worthwhile. The football they attempt to play sure isn't it. And I don't believe giving up a few extra seconds to concentrate on running Wadley off tackle will damage the so-called offense too much....

There's likely a player at the hospital right now. They spend a lot of free time there. If a patient has a favorite Hawkeye, he already has been paid a visit and has an autograph at the minimum. This looks bad to everyone but the kids. The one's that matter in those whole thing.

KF has donated millions and players spend hours upon hours of their free time with the kids there. Most of the people waving haven't donated a dime nor spent a minute with the kids there.

But yeah, let's bang on KF and the players. Makes perfect sense.

You would think if the players and coaches spend so much time with these kids(which is awesome by the way) that they would WANT to wave to them on gameday. Spare me the "they need that 5 seconds to strategize" bs. If other teams can take time out of their game planning to do it, we should as well....

The funny thing is, I couldn't believe how long the MN players waved at the kids, for like a full minute it seemed.

I've been up there for 3 games now.

Not one kid or parent has said a word about the players waving.

It's such a special moment for them, seeing 70000 Wave at THEM, they probably don't even notice

It doesn't look bad. People can't just enjoy something without finding a reason to bitch about the football program. Get over it.

Ya, never underestimate how a small gesture can brighten the day or make a difference in a kid's life. This is a no brainer, WAVE! Our pastor had a good video in church on the wave and it's impact, the kid's and parents are moved big time by it.

Also, do you want Trump tweeting about this and drawing attention to it? No! :)

Iowa won so fans have to find something to complain about. The players spend quite a bit of time at the hospital. Some stay in contact with families they’ve spent time with after leaving school, after families are done at the hospital both for good and bad reasons. I don’t think any less of any of the players or coaches for not waving. Move on and get off your highhorse.

Do you wave from home?

Wrong. Players spend time there during the season, too. A lot of those kids aren’t there for short stays. We personally know a family that’s been in and out for a year and have another 18 months to go for treatments. They have nothing but good things to say about Iowa athletes and coaches visiting.

If you think KF doesn’t care then you didn’t see the short piece on him talking about what it means to him since his granddaughter was there and passed away. Move on. KF and team care more about and do more for those kids than many on here.

Those players not waving to those kids it's like a servicemen not honoring the flag with a salute give me a break alls I'm saying it's a bad look everybody on this board knows those players and coaches spend time at that hospital but they can take 10 seconds out the game and wave to the kids in front of a national TV audience it's just a bad look okay

It doesn't look bad. It's all in your head.

I don't think so I asked my wife's opinion on it and she agreed with me just like the other guys on this board it's just not a good look man I'm I'm not going to get all upset and get into a fight with anybody on this board but I just think it's not a good luck if you work for somebody and there's a tradition at the company you work for you should participate in it

I defy you to give me an example where I ever said Kirk and the team doesn’t care.

What would it hurt to take 5 seconds to wave?

Deal with it.
