National.......wait for it........championship?
North Central is going to be tough.
We need some crazy good wrestling from 123, 130, and 136. Losing Estralla hurt big time in scoring. The women there are great...just not at the level of completion as the competition. All the other women that are going to score have at least a year on campus....those three are true freshman.
(Ward is a true freshman as well...but if she scores at nationals something went tragically wrong)
North Central currently has 21 All Americans on their team. The can only send 15 to Regionals.
On paper they should be able to get a bunch more points than us at 23, 30, and 36.
Unless something unexpected happen in their Region and they do not qualify at a weight, it's going to be a dog fight. When we wrestled them in the dual, yes we won, but took a major upset from Ava and a passivity point for Foeller to pull it put. We won 4 matches, they won 6.
Between the two teams there is the top ranked or returning champion at 8 of the 10 weights
Consider this, both teams combined
7 of 10 ranked #1
14 of 20 ranked in the top 2
19 of 30 ranked in the top 3
25 of 40 ranked in the top 4
North Central has 3 returning 2023 National Champions not ranked #1...including one going for her 4th title. We have 1 former champion not ranked #1.
We are going to need alot of bonus points.
