Hawks' Signature Moves

Then Edinboro before Baumgardner went there. Gable sent a back-up or two to jump-start his program and one won a national title for him. The name is escaping me right now, I think O'Day or something like that, a 134 lber I believe.

No, it was David Ray, and he was 3rd at 134 in 1986. I think was later head coach at Montana State-Northern. Sean O'day was nat'l champ in '89.
DeAnna coached there from '84-'90 then Baumgardner took over. Day was their first AA and O'day was their first NC.

Dang.. I never put it together that the Dresser dump was named after Kevin Dresser. I wasn't old enough to watch him wrestle, but man I feel like an idiot!

Rico Roll - Guy is in on a high crotch (so, head to outside), both wrestlers are standing (defensive wrestler on only one leg because offensive wrestler has high crotch leg elevated. Defensive wrestler then hooks over the head and around the chin (as one would in a front headlock) and gets an underhook with the other arm. Finally, defensive wrestler rolls backward across his own back and keeps rolling all the way through until the offensive guy is on his back and in deep doo-doo.
Thanks for the explanation. I've always known that as the "elevator."

I believe it was Lewis who had that rare condition where he did not have a pectorial major muscle so he was able to sink a head lock so deep that it was next to impossible to escape.

I saw Lou Banach toss a heavy with a lace leg throw. Incredible.

Lenny Z- double leg TD

Jimmy Z- Barzigar ( high crotch to a step-across)

Pete Bush- Metzger/upper body work

Barry Davis- single leg snatch+ heave-ho

Greg Randall- pancake

Hip Toss the sig move for Randy Lewis? More like the body-lock whip-over and also lace-leg throw. Impossible leg too.
Ed Banach had a similar move with the bear-hug, only he horsed sideways and over.

Good point about Lewboo, sweatybetty. Probably his most "trademark" move was just giving up his leg. Easiest leg in the nation to get, but the hardest guy in the nation to score on. . . .

Love the cow catchers and solid mat returns, but my all time fav is Mark Perry and his mostly Outside Leg Trip and occasional Inside Leg Trip, classic and his heavy hands set them up perfectly, always mixed it up so they never saw it coming. He had great duck under's and solid slide by's but the trips are what I remember best. One of the Hawks all time best technical wrestlers (IMHO) - see the bold there for all the MP haters.

And of course, the Steiner brothers "FrankenSteiner" ........................oh wait, wrong Steiner brothers.

Steve Mocco's foot sweep

Joe Melchoire headlock

Brand's Brothers off the mat shove (ok, they had very good double leg-cut at the knee finishes)

Jay Borschel barzigar ( high crotch to step across finish)

Yes. you got the idea.... inside leg lace/throws-headlock, lateral drop, etc....outside hip toss.
