I posted this on the BWI board a few hours ago, and it just occurred to me that some Hawkeye fans could be affected too.

There is a strong possibility of an NJ Transit strike or lockout starting next Sunday (3/13). If any of you are staying on the NJ side of the river for nationals, this could affect your travels to and from MSG. If it happens, the regional rail lines will be shut down, the buses and the PATH system will be extremely crowded, and the roads leading into the city will be overwhelmed. You're going to need some patience and a little extra planning. There will be a lot of media coverage about this starting tomorrow. If you're going to be impacted, you might want keep an eye on nj.com or northjersey.com.

So if we're flying into Newark we could have a bunch of issues? What are our best options from the airport down to MSG?

The train from the airport to NYC is one of the lines that would be affected. Car service might be your best option. Depending on what time of day you're traveling, count on the trip into Manhattan taking twice as long as usual if there's a strike. There's a news conference scheduled for tomorrow when a lot of the contingency plans will be made public. (I know they'll be additional bus service if there's a work stoppage, but I'm not sure if it will serve the airport.) An Amtrak train from the airport might be an option too.

Very, very doubtful a strike occurs. There is intense negotiating going on for days now. Last strike was over 30 years ago.

Bigger concern should be that the first day of wrestling is Dec 17 a huge holiday in NYC (and NJ) , NYC traffic is affected by the huge Parade down 5th Ave, but more importantly bars are packed with celebrating drinkers which later turn into fights and brawls. Streets packed w drunks as well. Madison Sq Garden has been renovated , and the bars inside are terrific with huge selection of craft beers and fancy vodkas and other spirits. They don't come cheap however. They will be renting out headsets for about $15 to listen to the action on each mat. Of course you can follow on your phone or tablet with ESPN3.

Chris Christie strikes again.

He has used manufactured gridlock against his enemies before.
He is backing Trump now.
Trump recently received a "Hawkeyeish" "endorsementish".
Hawks don't like PSU.
Most everybody has conceded that PSU will win NCAAs this year on the east coast.
Christie doing his part to minimize the PSU party.

Next step- build a northern wall for Iowa... paid for by the Gophers.

Thanks but I better be a long ways away from any Grandnabies. (3 kids in college and 1 in high school)
My sister and her husband did just give us our first niece not coming from my wife's side. I'm gonna spoil her silly.

Nobody who is actually involved in the process believes a strike is doubtful (much less "very very doubtful.") It's far from a forgone conclusion, but it's most definitely worth keeping tabs on if you're coming into town that week.

Wont be a problem at the bar a group of us will be watching at.Been to MSG and I wont miss the cluster fu%^ there or around there.

Actually, before we build the wall, and it's going to be a great wall, and Minnesota will pay for it, I promise you that, PSU needs to complete the Keystone Pipeline, taking top instate talent from Minny and transporting it to the Keystone state. Once they are done, we will not only build the wall, but will also build a wall on their eastern border to keep those Illinois kids from getting in to Minny and funneling them to Iowa instead.
