Healthy Fast Food

I know it, you know it, and the American people know it,
healthy fast food is an oxymoron. It is a contradiction in
terms like Jumbo Shrimp or Honest Politician.

Seriously, just use common sense. For the most part that will guide you well, but if pizza, bbq, and wings are what you like, you are probably gonna need to retrain your taste buds a bit. It might be hard at first but if you stick with it, after a while you won't crave the unhealthy foods as much.

Many of the salads and wraps and such can be healthy, but watch out for dressings and dips. Ditch the ranch or other fatty's and go with a vinaigrette, salsa, and hummus. They have great flavor, but might be odd at first. Go with jerk wings instead of buffalo. Do things like that. Try it a few days a week, while still letting yourself have the fatty foods and taper off. Eventually you will crave the healthy stuff more and view the fattier stuff as a treat, but won't want to eat it daily.

Culver's has some nice salads. Dip your fork in the dressing before taking a bite and avoid pouring the dressing all over the salad. The grilled chicken one with cashews is my favorite. Jimmy John's turkey sandwich with sprouts is a little high on sodium, but, other than that it's a tasty alternative to a fatty sandwich.

It's OK, get it occasionally because it's the only place near my house. Publix (a grocery store in the Deep South, started in FL) has much better subs.
Yeah we have a Publix and their subs are fantastic...we also have a Jersey Mikes...I like them but they don't have the selection of veggies Subway does. I know it isn't healthy but Publix and Walmart have the best fried chicken around here.

Subway here is terrible. Maybe I have just eaten too much Subway in my life.

I like Blimbie's and Quiznos better.

Is AJ Pickerman's in W/CF still in existence?

Do y'all have WaWa? We just got it here recently and people rave about it, but I haven't had it yet?

No Quiznos here...when I lived in Louisville, KY used to eat a Blimpie's all the time...pretty good and they load up the veggies. In MS I had Firehouse...great subs but more for the meat lovers.

i am no health food expert by any means and have eaten enough fast food and pizza to kill a hog, but the more that a person learns about what is in foods and what is not really food, it makes you really ask questions about what you are eating. i personally have tried to make an effort to eat things that are more natural,(not that natural, you degenerates) in the last few months. my personal biggest hurdle was not drinking pop, soda or coke for you southerners, and in the first few weeks it was a struggle but the craving went away after a few weeks.

Yep...everything is a "Coke" down here. Those would be the hardest thing for me to give up...so I am not going to try.

I always go for the baked cod at Long John Silver's. Sure they're known for their heavily-battered, deep-fried fare, but what those gentlemen can do to a piece of year-old, frozen "cod" is to die for. And by that I mean, after eating it, I wish I were dead.

it got to the point that i couldnt drink even half a bottle without my stomach killing me, but i still loved the brand.
i have gone weeks and months without drinking any pop and then gone on vacation and drank some and then returned to old habits. its a tough habit to kick just like any other addiction they dont go away easily.
the crazy thing is that people who are addicted to meth or crack have hotlines and help centers but pop/soda which is one of the most addictive things have nothing, that i know of.

Yep. I loved that place. Quizno's is gone too. Sub City and Pita Pit are healthy fast food options. Subway sucks ass.

Only 250 calories in mcdonalds hamburger.

Three of those and a diet coke is 750 calories. Seriously you can do a lot worse with food you think is healthy.
