Really what is combat anymore? Is it fighting in foxholes, on the front line, hand to hand, etc?
Combat has mostly moved to remote attack. Drones, ships at sea, long range missiles. Women can't fly drones as good as men? Women can't punch in coordinates of a target? Again, let's define combat first before we decide who's should be allowed to be involved.
The MBB would beat the WNBA All Stars. That has about as much relevance of who won the dance off in Footloose.

I'm going to guess there's a whole lot of women in the armed forces that could completely destroy you.
I think the emotional impact of front line fighting would be too much for 99% of women. Most men (including myself) have major problems with everyday life once we return. The roles they are in now are bad enough. But combat on the front lines is mentally breaking, even for the strongest. Men and women are just different when it comes to compassion. There is zero compassion on the front lines and what compassion is there is for your friends. Dragging a friend with missing parts out of a war zone is too much for almost anyone.

Sitting behind a monitor in a control room probably should not be considered “combat”. It’s more akin to when my dad spent the duration of the Korean Conflict putting up telephone polls in Germany for the Signal Corps.
No, not near the foxhole fighting that it used to be. But yes, troops do go into enemy areas and have fire fighting and hand to hand. Just different than before.
I’ve talked to someone in charge of fitness plans for the marines. They are geared pretty solely towards being able to effectively drag a wounded soldier out of the line of fire.
It was interesting. For years they used USA powerlifting/ weightlifting standards and realized that the Navy Seals were beating their asses in those kinds of fitness stuff when competing. Seals were early into Crossfit and USMC switched over to that soon after as their standard.
When it comes to women I would bet the issue most have with them being in hot zones is simply their ability to pull out a wounded soldier. Not ability to shoot or anything like that.

Only speaking of the Marine Corps, but WM's PT test are different than ours. They don't have to do pull ups, have to do fewer sit ups to get a score and don't run as far.
