BRONCOSWIRE led with a photo of Henry Krieger Coble today, and had a good discussion of the probability of HKC and Casey Kreiter making the 53-man roster. They projected a tough battle between Casey and Georgia free agent Nathan Theus for long snapper, then had this to say about HKC's chances:
"Henry Krieger Coble, Tight End
If you know anything about head coach Gary Kubiak, you know that he loves tight ends. He also loves a particular type of tight end.
Henry Krieger Coble is that type of tight end, and he will have a great chance to make this team as a result.
Playing at the University of Iowa, Krieger Coble comes from an offense similar to the one Kubiak likes to run. It’s the same reason the Broncos brought in offensive lineman James Ferentz last year, the son of Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz.
Krieger Coble can play inline or as a move tight end. He has good hands and is solid as a run blocker. His athleticism and ability to play all over the field makes him perfect for a zone-blocking offense.
Last year, he was second on the Hawkeyes with 35 receptions for a team that had an undefeated regular season. He’ll likely have to beat out Garrett Graham—assuming Virgil Green and Jeff Heuerman are locks to make the team—to win a roster spot, but he is capable of doing that.
When watching Krieger Coble play, he’ll remind you a lot of Owen Daniels, another favorite of Kubiak’s."
