I was reading that ridiculous thread where everyone was now 2nd guessing the coaches, yet again, because Wadley had a good game returning kicks...WTH!! Honestly its to the point on here, if something good happens, "those" fans show up in droves to complain that it didn't happen sooner...what a miserable way to live.

Someone said we were at the bottom of KRs and PR's...not so apparently. 3rd in KR and 7th in PR.

Honestly some of you guys get dumber by the day.

I also did a cursory google search and it seems most teams, the NFL included, do not use WR1's or RB1's on Kick Return duty. A few do, but only Akeem Hunt came immediately to mind. The most electric returner in the NFL Tyreek Hill only returns Punts.

There seems to be a belief that the "speed" on KR is more difficult to control & account for.... despite that NOT being exactly what I said initially...but again I found this initial research on a message board, but hey, that's where all the smart football fans hang out right...DOH!!! Not...

Also Bama did not use primary Rbers to return Kicks as was suggested. It seems Rashard Penny from SDSU returned 17 and Barkley returned 15. So "some" do it and some don't. We DID early on and he wasn't that effective....honestly "that" fan element is so jaded, so bitter, they can't put ANY blame of the players, only coaches and honestly it dumbs down their legitimate claims to the point they just look like stupid, little people.

This is hardly an exhaustive research but it sheds enough light on the subject that it pretty much reveals it to be what it is...more fan stupidity.

What a horrendous way to live.

PS.....the Vandenburg problem was his fear of fielding kicks. It totally hosed us a couple times, but remember, we had Jackson back there at one time and he wasn't awesome either. Maybe even someone else..get a grip and pay attention

I agree with you on most things.

As a Chiefs fan, we have an Akeem Hunt (the return man) and Kareem Hunt (the RB). Many teams have a top WR as a punt returner. But remember that NFL teams have a smaller roster so not as much wiggle room to deal with.

I like when we used IKM and Young or someone else to return kicks. I would love to see them train a Falconer or someone who clearly isn't going to get a lot of pt focus on that position. We have so many bodies out there, we could focus on it a bit more. Plus, gives the kid exposure and pt to appease them a bit more.

Agreed about Jackson and Wadley. Neither set the world on fire with what they did in their respective extra duties. Doesn't take away from the amazing job they did in their primary roles!

Good points but I hate comparisons to the NFL when it’s a completely different level and kind of play with different constructs like a 53 man roster as the previous poster points out. It’s not apples to apples at all.

I also hate comparisons to blue bloods like Alabama. Program wise it’s not the same thing at all to us. Find better comparisons to programs with similar attributes like Wisconsin, MSU, etc in our own league or teams like that in other power 5 leagues. Those are the teams to draw comparisons against.

I do like the use of data though in terms of rankings to make points.

I see way to many people that just pick apart everything! They just want to be negative ......I feel bad for there families and coworkers because I'm guessing that's the way they run there lives....always complaining and never happy! I saw another post about it being a great year! Beating Iowa State, Ohio State, Nebraska and winning there Bowl game. Also winning 4 out of 5 trophy games ....and yet some complain! Sure it was a up and down year ...most are.......find something positive losers!!! I see the glass as half full ...other it's always half empty!

Those are fair points however when the critic comes on board they use every available data point they can to try to run our coaching staff into the ditch. And usually they do it erroneously, flat making crap up along the way. Now I don't know for sure but I don't think Wisconsin or Michigan State were using WR1s or RB1s either in when I get a chance I'll look that up.

The real touch points here are Akrum did return kicks early on & somewhat ineffectively, we have used starters before and if I had to wager a guess I'd say 80 percent of the teams do not... so it's hardly anything the coaching staff can be criticized for.

But yet here we are. The number one thing being, wouldn't you think they would eventually begin to feel stupid for saying things that are patently false! Like we were at the bottom of the league, when in fact we were in the top three at kick returns and seventh on punt returns?

But not these guys...

If Wadley had got hurt returning kicks in the first 2 games of the year there would have been critics saying it was the coach's fault. When they put him back there again in the bowl and did well, there were critics saying he should have been used all year. My personal opinion is that ISM was the best KO returner Iowa had all year. I did think taking Wadley off KOR after the ISU game was the right thing. His heavy workload was making him ineffective returning kicks, and once Butler got hurt they certainly weren't going to have him return kickoffs.

Iowa's special teams (outside of net punting) were actually good this year. The fakes on field goals and punts largely worked, and Recinos was very good on FG's and kickoffs. We even recovered an onside kick, and didn't permit any to be recovered. Coverage units were good all year.
