That's kind of a pointless game to play (not to come across as an a-hole). Obviously Maryland has the higher individual talent outside of Uthoff and probably Jok, but Iowa's whole deal is good team basketball, ball movement, and forcing turnovers.

Clemmons is basically a 2nd PG and a defensive specialist, he will be guarding Trimble as much as possible. Jok starts at the 3 but will also play the 2 when Gesell/Clemmons are resting.
Who do you see guarding Uthoff? Don't see anyone who's a real good matchup for him, Carter has not seemed like a very good defender the games I've watched.

Been eh so far in conference play, but 5-2 nothing to sneeze at. I think if Iowa brings their A game they win by 10.
I think this game has the makings for an ESPN instant classic. I think both teams have their strong points and both team have weaknesses that can be exploited. The thing with Maryland is, they are more athletic than Iowa and they have the best PG in the nation right now. We always talk about guard play and how important it is, the PG is the key to the game Thursday night. If Clemmons/Gessell can keep Trimble in check and not allow him to dribble drive and kick, we will be alright. Also do not allow him to get penetration and drive to the hoop. I look at the game @Michigan and he played as poorly as possible. If Iowa can get him to play like that, I like Iowa's chances.
Iowa's bigs have to play Stone tough, he is a smooth Freshman who can shoot FT's. The kid had 39pts in one game already. Iowa has to match his physicality and also get him off of the block. He will be a tough mis-match for Iowa.

This is the question no team has been able to answer and I don't see anyone on Maryland's squad who can do it either. I'm sure they will try with Carter and give Layman a shot as well. It will be interesting seeing what they try. JU is a matchup nightmare for anyone, you need to be bid to stop his post game, but if you can't move laterally he is going to kill you off the dribble and from the outside. Best player in the B1G this year
My point is that you can't tell how good MD is by the NW game. Judging by the Iowa/RU game, Purdue should have had their way with Iowa. I'd actually expect MD to win on Thursday, though in a good, tight game...maybe 82-80 or the like.
Maryland appears to have some superior athletes but the Hawkeyes are tougher than a $2.00 steak.
Unless the Terps come out playing like their heads are on fire the Hawks win this by 12.

If they go Layman on Uthoff, you are going to have one weird cross match somewhere. Probably Carter on Clemmons when Maryland has Stone/Carter/Layman in the game together. Will be fun to see how Fran tries to take advantage of that.
MD lost to Michigan and MSU teams Iowa have beaten and might NW took them to OT and SHOULD have won that game. That is what I'm basing my comments on. They can play out of their minds and beat us but if the Iowa team that has showed up vs the good BIG teams comes to play Thursday Iowa wins by double digits.
