Just heard on call in with ""Mike" that someone from Ohio called in and asked if he could explain how with only 9.9 scholarships Penn State could have all 10 starting wrestlings ranked in the top 10 in the nation in their high school wiegths and could get 2 more number ones in the 16 class. His reply was, "wow did not realize that as we don't cover wrestling as much as other college sports" however; maybe have to check this out looks very interesting.

Boy it would be nearly impossible to catch a team that did the following. You regularly approach some of your Jr & Srs that you have built a ton of trust with to give up the scholarship that they got when they were being recruited. You tell this upperclassman that in a year or two if they stick around and wrestle for your well funded Local Regional Training Center Wrestling Club there will be a camp that is lined up for them at Wealthy Booster High and they will pay you 10 times what you should get. By that time you are an independent contractor that has nothing to do with the NCAA or your college anymore and there is no law against overpaying someone for doing a camp. This payment easily covers the cost of the loans that took the place of your scholarship.

If a team was to do something like this they would be able to keep offering all the top 10 pound for pound recruits full rides while other teams that are recruiting them have to be thinking about spreading out 9.9 to their whole team so they can fill their rooster. They can't possible afford to be throwing out top dollar at every top 10 kid that comes around and are probably coming at all but the elite of elite with 75-80% scholarships. Would be pretty hard to beat that formula.
