Normally when I read a story about a violent conflict, I don't have much trouble picking a side, but when Hezbollah fights ISIS, what should we hope for? I've only run against this situation in sports, like if ISU plays Notre Dame and I don't want either of them to win. This is more significant than that...

I know, it's Fox news, but in this case it seems to just be news, and not politically focused/biased.

I posted on this last week. My feeling is we should back Hezbollah.

We think of Hezbollah as Israel's foe and Iran's ally, so the knee-jerk reaction might be to root for ISIS. But Israel and Hezbollah have been playing their games to a known set of rules for years and it's not going to get too far out of hand. ISIS is another story. Moreover, like the IRA, Hezbollah has been moving toward "legitimacy" for years - running for office, participating in Parliament, providing social services, and so on.

Imagine what happens if ISIS beats Hezbollah. What's to keep them from taking Lebanon? How safe is Israel with ISIS potentially on 2 borders?

If ISIS looks like they might take Lebanon, can Israel stay out of the fray? Can the US?

Hezbollah is arguably the lesser of the two evils, but it is backed by Iran. It's only arguable a lesser evil as it is mainly concerned with supporting the Palestinians and opposing Israel and doesn't threaten terror attacks outside of its neighborhood or aspire to conquer large areas of the world to establish a Caliphate. That said, they are definitely still an evil.

Hamas has been assisted by Israel's Mossad to divide and weaken the PLO. Hezbollah is a creation of Israel as well. ISIS is a theater group created by western powers. They are using U.S. made weapons left behind by U.S. trained Iraqi forces. It breathes life into the MIC and gives them legitimacy to be in the ME. A new enemy has been created. Look! the bogeyman. Over here, over there.

If we now agree that there are no WMD's in the ME as the west has proclaimed and it was the impetus for our being over there, why the F are we still there? Support the troops. Bring them home. Spend our dollars here. These wars are destroying our economy and liberties.

I think, truth be told, Americans are conditioned to prefer war/competition. They have an obsession with it.
