Hills Elementary-ICCSD--Nuked

You seem woke tonight.
I'm always awake. It's just that the ICSD has always made false promises, changed people, then change the plan. Close the school. No, wait we have to put in temporary buildings to handle the overflow, we need to add on, again, ( it was added to in the '80's ), no we're looking to build a new school, we need ground, now we're closing but we're keeping the ground because Hills is growing and we might build again in the future ( even though we told you the site was too small for a new school.) Send all those trailer court kids to Lucas where they belong...

Sorry. I said woke. I should have said triggered.

And, there just isn’t much land available. Those farmers aren’t selling the good land, and between Hills and the river you are at risk of flooding.
This is false as well. Like I said Property Viewer my man. Two 6 acre plots directly east of Hills are not " farmer owned ". They're locally owned and prime for streets to just get extended as is. This is the highest elevated land near town. How do I know? MMS told us so. We ended the sandbagging there in 2008 when there was widespread panic of flooding. It didn't happen and river water never touched any part of our mile and a half sandbag wall. The Claussen family owns the ground to the north and south. They already sold the ground for the treatment plant, lagoons and let us sandbag on his land. Bill's a friend of the town who would have sold ground to the ICSD...

Make sure to post here when that prime acreage is developed.

Okay, I live in central Iowa and know nothing about this personally. Were the class sizes really 6 : 1? If so, I'd have voted to close it as well. Keeping that open with those numbers, while cute and nice, are not sustainable for a school board to run a budget.

No. Where did you hear that? It was 9/1, just the same as Kirkwood, Twain is 10/1, Lucas and Wood are 11/1, Horn, Longfellow and Shimek are 12/1. Huge differences?

Hills to vote on public water system

Oct. 15, 2012

Now, nine years after the Environmental Protection Agency discovered the chemical perchlorate in some of Hills' drinking water, the town of less than 800 is just one ballot measure away from installing a public water system that was voted down by the public in 2007 due to its cost.

Hills Mayor Tim Kemp said the exact cost of the public water system is hard to determine since the city has not spoken to engineers for a bid, but he said the $4.63 million state revolving fund loan would cover the project, which would include a water treatment plant, underground piping, and hooking everyone in town up to the system.

Somebody posted it on here. Even those other numbers are unstainable.
So the other 5 schools in IC with 9/1 to 12/1 ratios should be shuttered as well. I wonder how much Special Education factors into that ratio. I know for a fact that you have $100,000 special ed teacher and one para for each kid at Hills. Five for five kids. I know part-time Paras in the Iowa City school district get full-time benefits.

JFC you’re thick. I posted this in post 36. 🤪 The project passed because of funding and the threat of the school leaving. That was 2012. 12 years ago. Hills did not miss out on funding as you now decided to post what I countered you with on page one post 36. The school was always on a deepl well anyway, not the shallow sand points that affected about 1/10 of the town on the SW side.

I can't speak to the other schools. I'm just saying the district I helped run was no where close to that.
