Sad I'm home on a Sat night but just saw her commercial. At least I get to watch some college fball.
She's actually promoting paid family leave. Almost every business owner would tell you how screwed up Tommy Bahama Harkin's FMLA is , now she wants paid family leave.
WTF??

Don't you know? Employers have a money tree and they just need to shake that moneymaker harder. Never mind that all the employees are on leave and aren't there shaking that money tree.

It will be interesting to see what kind of plan Paul Ryan sends to the floor regarding family/medical medical. Mr. Ryan obviously understands the importance of family time.....just interesting to see how hard he pursues it and make it the law of the land. Getting legislation TO THE FLOOR for debate and vote is the primary responsibility of the Speaker of the House.

Female voters who would enjoy the benefits of the program and their spouses who quickly see the value it brings to their lives. Satisfied taxpayers who benefit from children that grow up in better environments.

If we must go down this road, there has to be some sort of limits. Like you can only get it for your first two children or something like that. If you're one of these people who wants to have 12 children, you could be on paid leave your entire childbearing life!

I would assume these sorts of issues are already worked out. Don't most other 1st world nations have this type of law?

I dunno about "most" first world countries, but the countries that do have these sorts of programs have massively higher taxes.

In Canada, I believe the woman has to work a certain number of hours (or make a certain amount of wage) and then she will be paid a certain percentage of that income while on maternity leave from the government.

Like unemployment insurance? It works like that right? Would you fear a law like this would lead to discrimination against females in employment?

Can she do this 12 times?

It shouldn't because men would get the same benefit. Several of my colleagues have taken an extended maternity leave after having a child. They had to use sick days, so I don't think that counts as paid family leave exactly, but they got to take 6 weeks, just like their wives.

Hill's got it right. Raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour. Add family leave. And add all this to a health care system that has under performed!!!!!! Are you F'ing kidding me?!!!! If you watched Face the Nation today you know that the holes in the Obamacare dike are huge and prolific. The insurance industry knows that all hell will break out in 2016 & 2017. And Americans want to elect long time professional politicians. UNREAL!!!!!!! Wake the F up, both sides of the aisle are corrupt and responsible for the debt of our country. Hill has one motivation, to be the first vagina in the oval office. She couldn't hold Carly's bra & I'm not endorsing Carly. But I will say this, with all their faults I'd rather take a chance on Carly, Ben or the Donald than go with a corrupt professional politician. (Yea, I know, all three have their faults. I have mine and you have your faults too. So what?!!)

Doesn't the man have a right as well to take leave and be with his newborn kids?

Yes. Basically use vacation/PTO until it's used up then it's unpaid but you're allowed 6 weeks presently.
In the case of the women sometimes I think they get paid basically under STD if an employee has that which is a % of normal pay - I think 60%.
I'm no HR expert or anything but considering paid family leave is batshit crazy for an employer.

Hillary seems to want it paid for both the women and man.

You are sooooo prejudice!!!! This would not be fair. And what if your religion says you can't us contraception? And don't forget, this law will apply to both men and women. Same sex families cannot be neglected.
Tell me more. Do I get time off to try to get pregnant? I'm thinking I'm going to be left out of this one.

Soooooo, how with this law affect brothels? Another loophole?
Does it really offer time off for lovin? I thought it was safe to assume that was a joke. I think one one state has legal brothels anyway, but I'd be in favor of changing that.

Good point but what about Backpages? I mean, don't those girls deserve some respect?

I'll have to see if that's what my friend learned while he was at the IWW.

Back to being on topic, the question was asked about how to fund it.

My answer: quit paying people for having kids, and start providing incentives for taking care of them. End the child tax credit, and use that to pay for family leave, daycare, etc.

This is something conservatives should love - it benefits those who have jobs, instead of welfare queens.

The cost will just be passed on to the consumer, like it always is.

The costs aren't all financial and not all costs are borne by the employer.

Important work doesn't get done, or is done incompetently. Sucks for the employer, but...

Sometimes you hire a temp who's actually better than your own employee, but you can't make the upgrade permanent because your employee has "rights" that the temp employee does not have. Sucks for the temp employee, doesn't it?

And the most delicious situation of all: your temp discovers wrongdoing on the part of the employee on leave while she occupies the desk and the computer. This would have never come to light if the employee wasn't on leave. Sucks for the employee on leave, doesn't it?

Except you're forgetting what we're talking about, here. Paying people to NOT work.

Which would lend to the typical Dem voter...
