Homeless people

I recently welcomed an old neighbor of mine into our home. He has been sleeping in the mall during these freezing temps. Good guy, just really down on his luck, I guess. Any of you ever help out homeless folks?
Well schedule Xi Jinping to visit. They'll provide a warm place for him.

Jokes aside, there are way to many people like this out there. It's sad. Many actually choose it, many don't. I know there are missions that help out. But you must be sober in order to get in. This seems to stop many from wanting the help.

Don't know why we spend billions of dollars on (whatever) in this country and can't afford to get homeless Americans the real help they need.

If I see them on my way into a restaurant I will order something extra and get it to go and give them it on the way out, or, if they are panhandling I usually keep a case of water in my vehicle, ill give them water. I've bought like McDonald's and things to bring back to them also.

I never give them money. The world is a crazy place, someday that might be me.

I have also worked downtown Des Moines and had to tell several to **** off because they always bug the shit out of you in the Skywalk.

I had an uncle that chose to move down to Panama city beach to panhandle. He was a alcoholic and would do just enough to get booze and sit on the beach. He had a massive heart attack and died while walking out of a store awhile ago, with booze in his hand.

I travel with my job in 48 states. I'm in a different state every week. Man does Florida and California have a lot of homeless people. There might be 4-5 around every restaurant.

One time when I was like 8 I was home by myself while my parents ran to get groceries or something. This homeless guy knocked on our door and asked if my dad was home. Then he asked if he could use the bathroom, and I said ya cause I felt bad.

HE ****ING TRAAAAAASHED IT.

Mud tracks everywhere through the house, dirt all over the vanity, dirt on the mirror. Like.. he was only in there a few minutes. I couldn't believe my eyes. There was no way my parents weren't going to know that I let a homeless man into the house.

Good on OP. I'd like to imagine if I knew the person I would. I in all honesty likely wouldn't invite a complete stranger in... you know, kids n stuff.

I know him. I have kids. I wouldn't invite a complete stranger in either. He's a good man. A veteran. My wife and kids have always liked him. I work from home, so I'm always there to make sure nothing bad happens. On the plus side, he's a great cook :)

Took in my mentally ill stepson on 3 different occasions after the divorce. Each time was progressively worse and ended with him finding my checkbook and writing several checks to Walmart just under the $25 ID threshold

OP’s Mom runs a homeless shelter. She accepts all homeless boners.

Get it?? She accepts a lot of penis into her body.

I like to buy homeless breakfast. I'd much rather do that then give them money.
I do that too.

With our new "roommate," I set ground rules for him. He can stay as long as he needs to, he can eat whatever he wants from the fridge or kitchen cabinets, he doesn't get any money from me, but he has to help with chores like shoveling snow etc. He really is a good man, but like I said earlier, just really down on his luck in life. I think he chose a path that took him down the road to "down on his luck", but I care about him enough to help him get back on his feet and down the right path.

The biggest negatives about him are that he is a Packers fan and a Clown fan. UGH.

Well, he should have to disown his teams. j/k. Good for you. Between having to feed 4 kids and most times their bf/gfs I can't afford to bring someone in my house. Bless you.

I have 3 kids and 2 big dogs, so the grocery bill is already big, but I'll find a way. Like I mentioned earlier, he is a great cook, so that helps.

I have sternly told him that this is a Bears, Cubs, Hawkeyes house. LOL...he is adapting :)

Thanks again buddy, but for the record, that wasn't mud or dirt

Even if we didnt spend “billions of dollars on (whatever)” and spent it on homeless vets, the same people that clutch pearls about bootstraps and such will always cry “how are we going to pay for it” if it went to the poor (or even things that helped the average joe citizen)

I took a homeless man and his kid in once.

I saw him out trying to sell portable bone density scanners to hospitals with not much luck.

After seeing him fiddle with a rubik's cube, I had a hunch he could be successful if given a chance.

I have learned though that you should "Keep his wife's name out your phucking mouth". Learned that the hard way after he bitch slapped me.

That's my point. If we stop spending on all the BS we have now, we can get the help where it's needed. It's add the additional amount on top of the stupid spending is what I have a problem with.

But my point is the same people that gripe anytime any amount of money going to benefit the poor and average american will gripe regardless because bootstraps.

They dont bat an eye at corporate welfare, bailouts…and farmers love their government checks

We had a homeless man in my hometown. Everyone knew him and would holler his name and he'd wave. He slept on benches and sit outside the grocery store. People would walk by and give him money for food.

Funny thing was, when he passed away, he was a multimillionaire. All his money was willed (in his living will) to the local church which he attended every Sunday.

Not even the church knew he was rich. Crazy how he lived but I can say, he was always happy and I never saw him without a smile.

I agree 💯👍. It's a crappy cycle we have.

That man's name?.. Jesus Christ.

I helped out myself when I was homeless.

Got nothing against the homeless...and will always have a place for friends and family to stay while getting back on their feet.

Will never give a penny to someone panhandling...to many companies looking for employees for them to be panhandling. Hell I was homeless in 2008...it took a minute in that economy...but I was still able to get a fastfood job and move forward with life.

You do know that a lot of panhandlers (at least around CR) arent homeless, right?

Many years ago one of the news organizations did a story about the panhandlers. Caught them on video getting in trucks and heading home.

Would you rather be homeless in Minneapolis, Iowa City or Florida and California?

Yes

Awhile back San Diego went and built some of the best homeless shelters in the country...really stepped up and took care of them.

Then they realized all they did was invite homeless from all over the country to figure out how to get to San Diego...not hard to get a one way bus ticket out of many towns when you are homeless.

There used to be a homeless guy that would sit on the bench at the end of the block Sports Column is on. He always had funny signs, and I called him "Ol Sumbitch". I would regularly sneak him out shots from SpoCo on dollar you call it nights.

I was recently telling my fiance no pics about it, and it turns out she actually used to take him Jimmy Johns occasionally during the same time period/csb
