Spoke with a few guys before the Iowa Basketball banquet tonight as well as an interview with Fran.
First on the Fran front, basically they are still monitoring the transfer market, which continues to grow. It's over 400 now (mix of grad transfers and regular transfers). Getting the feeling that Iowa is going to be pretty picky about the prospects they will consider. Fran said backcourt would be the most likely if they go after anyone, but it has to be the right fit. My feeling is there's a real chance Iowa stands pat with the hand they have now and bank it for 2017. Now, that can certainly change, but that's my feeling right now. One year market (grad transfers) isn't great for guards that could help Iowa and make a difference next year.
Talked to Dale Jones this evening and he's on the recovery road. Said that the doc's told him his first ACL tear repair wasn't great and this time it's much better. Feels pretty good. Doing some shooting. Usually 6-8 month recovery and he feels like he's on schedule.
Caught up with Moss as well. Said academically, he has had a good year. Felt the redshirt year was a good thing in that regard. Learned a lot this year trying to guard Peter Jok while on the scout team. Says he still has a lot of areas to work on, but he's getting better.
Also spoke with Nicholas Baer and he said Fran told him he would be going on scholarship in their post season meeting. Fran said he earned it. First call was to his mom, who cried when she learned the news. Pretty nice moment there.
Talked to Hutton, who was there tonight, and he's going JUCO route. May end up at Indian Hills. Weighing a couple of options. Fleming, who was not there, has some mid-major options he is weighing.
Good time at the banquet. Seniors gave some great speeches. Four core seniors shared the Chris Street Award,which seems appropriate given their contributions to the program.
