To me it’s just a further story of what has happened in a ton of places - with the oldest of silent generation and the boomers, so many of them have refused to step aside and still now continue to hold onto power and leadership roles of their respective organizations because they hold all the cards and nobody can call BS (and also in many cases these people still have to work because not quite financially secure enough to not work).

For Gen X and now even the oldest Millennials, it is had a big delay on career advancement as men and women born in the 1940s and 1950s instead of retiring at 59, by in large, began instead retiring late 60s and 70s or even longer. So this delayed the rise up chain in a lot of places as people in 30s have to wait a decade or even more for the logjam to release. Heck I even saw it with my dad and his coworker who were the two highest people at a local private school. They got into their respective positions in their early to mid 30s and when they retired in their late 60s the guys who replaced them were early to mid 40s, having had to wait 10 more years for that torch to patch. Not much different than politics except these clowns are working into their 80s…Mitch, Nancy and Biden are older than Boomers. Trump is barely a boomer himself.

I think this will change with Gen X and behind. Most of my counter parts are really desiring to retire in late 50s to early 60s if possible. Millennials all are probably targeting late 50s and Gen Z for sure wants to get back to the days of 30 year careers.

Yep. Another big factor IMHO was because Biden screwed it up and decided to run again, the democrats were deprived a true nomination process that would have generated so so much more attention to people better able to make the case on how things are and were. The mass disinformation spewed by the right that had voters convinced we were in a recession in November 2024 despite 2024 being a great economic year on just about all metrics was greatly enabled by Biden’s inability to go out and make the case at press conferences and in TV interviews / speeches because they kept him in a box for two years, knowing he could have a debate like performance at anytime. I firmly believe a normally nominated candidate would have destroyed Trump because they could have made the case for 18 months instead of Joe. And I doubt Harris would have won nomination.

The Dems lost this because they don't know how to run a national-level election. You need to have candidates that the members of the party feels they were involved with in picking. You need to have candidates that are likable, or at least not significantly unlikeable. You need to have candidates that speak clearly to the people on their messaging and have that messaging be meaningful.

2016 - Primary system was rigged for Hillary with the super delegates. This turned away a lot of Bernie-Dems and cost them the election. On top of that Hillary wasn't super likable with the general public. She ran a campaign based around the concept that it was "her time" more than anything else. And the "her time" messaging really turned away a lot of potential male voters.

2020 - Biden is dead until he wins South Carolina and then starts rolling. He was likable in the sense that he wasn't Trump. But Biden had tried and failed miserably decades before at the presidential level. His messaging was that he wasn't Trump, and that was enough to shift the vote in his favor. He had some benefit of being Obama's VP helping him too.

2024 - No primaries and they just named Kamala as the nominee. Kamala really isn't likable by the general populace. She doesn't come across as intelligent when giving unprepared remarks. She has no significant coherent messaging. She at least didn't run her campaign primarily on being a woman, but the campaign was not well ran. I think they did decent considering the limited timeline that they had, but it wasn't enough to overcome the bad selection of the candidate.


In 2028 they have to do a few things.
1. Let the party decide the candidate. An open primary season, where every candidate has a fair shot if they're good.
2. Stop running the candidate based upon their identity. The message should be that this person is the best person for the job and here's why. Not, she can be the first woman president, or first Latin, or first whatever, etc.
3. Be clear and direct in their statements on what they're going to do. Nothing wishy washy. Nothing "squishy". And make these relatively simple to understand. Find someone that can publicly speak without sounding like an idiot or elderly like the last two candidates.
4. Worry about the economy first and foremost. Worry about healthcare or other expense-oriented things second. The voting populace cares about their wallets and bank accounts more than anything else.
5. Embrace the youth. They should be setting up younger people to be long-time leaders in the party. That doesn't mean "extremist" Dems, but you have some young Gen-Xers and Millenials that should be set up to be leaders in the party.
