How’s everyone doing?

I’m doing great because I’m a man who makes his own way in this world. Nobody is coming to save me and I don’t expect anyone to save me.

Feeling and doing awesomely. The unhinged leftist meltdowns have been quite entertaining these last few weeks. Not as much fun as a reverse gangbang at the Tri-Delt house, but quite fun nevertheless.

I can’t imagine politics moving any needle for me in terms of mood, feeling, etc. I can see why it does for weak minded people who have phuck all going for them though. Everybody needs something.

It’s not politics. It’s the utter stupidity and drama queenery of the left that is so entertaining.

And if what you say is true, then the leftists on this board are the most weak-minded people to ever exist.

Idk, the reverse gang bang thing doesn’t sound too fun. Thinking of it from an STDs and potential uggos getting in there.
As for politics it’s similar to The Who’s Won’t Get Fooled Again. The ones changing the status quo now are the status quo. They’ll simply make a system that benefits them the most and screw the followers. Nothing really changes.

Anyone who isn't is either stupid, naïve, or very wealthy with more concern for money over their country.

That too but I'm more anxious because my company is going to close around the end of the year and wind down my hours and pay so I'm looking for another job. It's because the owners want to retire, not due to financial reasons. I've been here 20 years.

My boss got me an interview with one of his competitors and I was waiting on confirmation of a scheduled 2nd interview on Friday. I was convinced I was about to get ghosted again, but I just got the confirmation this morning. So hopefully it goes well.

Multiple times I've had potential employers talk like they were extremely interested in hiring me only to ghost me. One of them was even a freaking relative (2nd cousin). Suddenly I'd call and they were never there to take my call and I'd leave voice mail messages until I got the picture a couple weeks later.

So the idea that this potential employer is going to do the same thing to me is absolutely in my head right now.

That sucks. I know it's hard to get a job these days despite what employers keep claiming. My wife and daughter have probably submitted over 500 job applications in the last year and received perhaps five interviews between them. Good luck to you.

A question I have is that if your currently company is doing okay, and the owners are just walking away, is it something you and your fellow employees could take over?

Not likely. There is a lot of things outside of just running the business that the owners did themselves so there is an issue of competence in actually running the business even if they just gave it to us.

And given the assets the company holds (mostly the building and land) I don't see how it could be afforded. I don't know what the real world appraisal of the assets would be but the book value is around 4 million and there is maybe 15 employees here. Doubtful any of us much less all of us could come up with the hundreds of thousands of dollars to buy them out.

And the last issue is a lot of those 15 employees are pushing retirement themselves. There is like 5 people in the office full time and I'm the 2nd youngest at 42. The maybe 10 or so people who work in the shop and I'm only older than maybe 3 or 4 of them. So figure 15 employees the vast majority are older than 55.

I mean if I break it down to just office staff I'm pretty sure everyone else besides the one guy that's younger than me is retiring after this.

The one guy that's younger than me, I am sort of curious to see how he does. His dad is one of the owners, he's not competent enough to take over the business so they arn't even offering it to him and he's gotten away with a lot of stuff that I really just don't think you could pull off if your dad didn't own the company. I probably won't have contact with him after this to know, but I really wish I could find out how he handles employment where his boss isn't his dad.

I'm waiting for the next high and the next low. Seems like there is no equal footing to just maintain worry free. Right now, this is me..

I gave my former employer the ole middle finger and signed 0 documents when I left ;) I also started my own company with superior people and equipment to compete.

Good for you. I did the same thing about 10 years ago. Best decision ever. First couple years were kind of rough though.

Recently I have more worries and concerns.

This. With all that is going on in the world, work, family, having 3 teenagers with one heading off to college next year, I feel anxious and worried a lot. Just can’t seem to go with the flow right now. However, lots of great things happening while I feel constantly stressed.

Good luck.

I said some prayers for your success.

Like as in post election? I'm pretty much doing the same shit I always do...work a little here and there, mostly enjoying semi-retirement and my daily dose of fvcking with H4aD and Champ.

So, not necessarily totally on theme to this thread, but not worth starting another over, I just got a text with a pic, from a buddy whose friend is a public figure and giving a speech abroad. The friend is working out in his hotel room, and hears what he thinks is a car crash outside. So he goes to the window, looks down to the street level, and sees a guy splayed out on the veranda bleeding out from his head.

I don't think he was doing too well.

(Honestly, the pic almost looks like a Chopper Reid scenario.)

It's entirely uncalled for. Tell me I don't have the job, I can take it. Even better, give me feedback so I'm better prepared for the next interview.

It's ridiculous. Everyone says they can't get help, meanwhile all the job seekers can't get a job. Maybe don't ask for triple doctorates with a decade of experience while offering entry level pay.

I honestly do think there are flaws with some of the recruiting software used, especially the ones used to weed out applications. I think a lot of good candidates don't even get looked at. I've had multiple rejections without even getting any hits on my portfolio.

I enjoy looking through the university of Iowa jobs from time to time for a good chuckle based on this. They want people to have a masters degree and have the starting pay at $40,000. Good luck.

Today's been a shit day. Woke up & found out that one of my younger son's buddies died in a car crash last night, gone at age 19. Oddly, yesterday was the 5th anniversary of his dad dying in a car crash. Can't imagine what the family, especially the widow/mom, is going through.

At the rate the economy is going, in a year or two, people will kill for such a job. That's where we're at.

I'm doing pretty damn well today. It's a day closer to the weekend, and after last night there's one less Iowa mens basketball game this year, so that's super exciting too!
