How does a team continually get blown out on the road?

To me it just defies everything we know about sports. There will be blowout road losses, but every single time? I could live with a 2-8 conference road record and three or four 10 points or less losses.

I think it's pretty obvious and it's not going to change. I think it's more surprising if you don't expect it at this point.
Definitely frustrating to watch. We've seen the movie before and know what to expect at this appoint.

Apathy has set in...

The exact same answer to every question we have had about this team's struggles for the last 10 years............SOFT.

You can recite stats, analyze player rotations, time-outs taken or not taken, in game adjustments.........whatever you want. But it still comes down to the S.O.S., the team we root for is soft. It's pretty much just playing on a loop no matter what players come in.

It's infuriating.

defense and rebounding are how champions are built and how you win on the road.
The saying Defense travels is 100% true and not believed by fran.
I think he does believe it, there's nothing drastically different about the home/road defense or rebounding. They're equally bad no matter where they play. At home they usually manage to not set up new brick foundations for the neighborhood.

I found this little gem from the postgame:

"When Owen is running, and he's screening, and he's rolling hard, he's tough to stop," McCaffery said. "If he starts to get a little winded, then it's not quite the same. I just have to make sure I get him enough rest."

Like WTF? It's not November, it's fricking February pretty much.

When my guys are playing hard then they are tough to beat.......but when we get a teenie bit tired I need to make sure we have a break.

JFC.

Owen is tough to stop when he sees a shot go up on the defensive end and takes off for the other end thinking he can get an easy layup. He really looks like a rim-running big in those times, but of course it's fraudulent.

You still on the "give Fran a chance" train?
I have to admit. If they go winless on the road along with losing at home to Purdue, Wisconsin, and Oregon. That'd be 6-14 in the league. It'd guarantee missing the tournament. Recruiting class or not, you have to move on. It's becoming unacceptable at this point I'm a tenure.

I know our defense ability has gone nowhere but have no idea where our offense has gone. Watching the players, I am not sure if they are just waiting for the season to get over. Hope I am wrong. The effort seems to be there, but something is missing.

Hate to break it to you but missing the tournament is already guaranteed.

Our non con schedule was a joke. Northwestern was a miracle. Penn State was a gift. The Nebraska comeback was a huge outlier, combined with an egregious missed traveling call....

After 10 games, we have ONE legit win in this league and it was at home against a team that is not going to make the tourney and is going to fire their coach at the end of the season (maybe before).

ZERO Q1 wins after 21 games.

This team is the definition of not a tournament team.

Next year will be different. Things will change next year. Big time recruits coming in. Next year will be the year. Next year….next year…..

I turned it off with 15 minutes to go. There's losing, and then there's losing like Iowa. The first half was ugly and boring. The start of the second half, Iowa might as well have stayed in the locker room. In fact, if they'd forfeit the rest of their road games they could donate the money saved to some worthy cause. At least then Iowa men's basketball would have some relevance.

This season was lost on the recruiting trail.
Lack of effort on Defense and Rebounding.
No consistent PG play.
No shot blocker
Our big time scorer has the yips most nights
Our best offensive scoring threat (Dix) can be shut down completely with an athletic defender,

IMO McCaffery has lost some of the players and they are just playing out the season. Just my take from afar. I also do not think the team chemistry is very good and there may be two camps. But like I said just my take from afar and no facts either way except the s***** BBall they are playing.

This isn’t new. Fran’s philosophy is to win on the road we have to shoot well. When we don’t we get our asses kicked. I don’t know why anyone would expect the magic formula to change. We aren’t all of the sudden going to start playing defense and hitting the glass. Not happening.

Thus 11 offense rebounds by Ohio State

The scoring margin would lower as well we lost by 4 but not playing 2nd half lol
