How I wish Dr. Tom was the coach.

I love Fran, and I will always appreciate what he did to revive Hawkeye b-ball, but he’s not 1/10 of the coach Dr. Tom was. If Tom Davis coached this team, imagine it. Joe T starting, Perkins getting a ton of minutes, the full court press with athletic guards, actual defense that plays hard. Fran needs to figure what Dr. Tom did to coach his defense, and start utilizing that.

NO!!!! He had a career .500 win percentage in the Big Ten. Nice guy, but overstayed by about about 5 years and his recruiting was spotty at best.

Not at all. He would continue pressing despite having a team of slow white guys that can’t defend. Layup, layup, layup for the other team. Already saw too much of that crap with Dr. Tom.
You do realize Dr. Tom would be playing CMac or JBO more than Joe T, Keegan, PMac, Ulis, or Perkins?

This team with the depth we have and the athleticism we have (most of it on the bench) would have been perfect for Dr Tom. Put Patrick up top on the press along with Joe T and Murray plus Weiskamp and Garza? And just keep rotating. Would have been fun to watch.

Dr Tom was a better X’s and O’s coach than anyone we had since his unfortunate situation at the end.

Ding ding ding. Have Pat create a problem on the first pass, with Joe T and Murray playing in your face defense. Let Garza protect the rim, and Weezy do his thing defensively. Then just rotate CJF, Perkins, Ulis, Nunge, and JBO. Would be a perfect situation for Dr. Tom.

Absolutely.

Fran is the equivalent of Dr Tom.

Fran made a sweet 16?
Not yet but should this season. Dr Tom had a helleva start with Ravelings players and then last season went out with a bang with our last one. Dr Tom is a better X's and O's overall Coach, Fran is a better offensive coach and recruiter. They are nearly equal IMO.

Davis was only good with ravelings recruits. He was not that great of a coach IMO!

Fran is not a better recruiter than Dr. Tom.

It wouldn't surprise me at all. The calls are more favorable non-conference and postseason in the post feeds for Garza which should open up the perimeter. Garza should be drawing way more fouls than he does.

It always seems to me that officials allow more physical play the deeper the tournament goes.

And he better work on those FTs before March Madness.

TD was exactly the same as Fran other than TD's players bounce passed. Allk offense and no defense. TD was no better or worse

LOL, yes he is, and a better evaluator of talent. Aaron White who had no offers.

Davis landed two McDonald's AAs and got highly rated players like Dean Oliver, Ricky Davis, and Joey Range toward the end of his tenure. He also got a pretty nice transfer in Andre Wooldridge.

My memory is a little hazy, but I don't recall JR Koch or Ryan Bowen being highly recruited, but the former got drafted and the latter had a lot of good years in the NBA coming off the bench.

Davis wasn't great at recruiting, but Fran is not better.

I don't agree, I don't think it is a substantial difference but I think Fran is a better evaluator of talent. Dr. Tom missed out on the Iowa studs of the 90s big time and why he ultimately was let go.

Maybe it was the era, but I remember a few guys being pretty damn scrappy under TD.

In hindsight though we marched into Alford and Lickliter.

He missed out on one player, Chis, Raef LaFrentz, who just didn't want to come. He was in his lame duck year when Collison and Hinrich were seniors, and it was believed Collison would have gone to Iowa had Davis not been let go.

By way of comparison, Fran has whiffed on Marcus Paige, DJ Carton, and Xavier Foster. Fran also passed on Monte Morris.

I'm not bashing Fran, but your argument is weak.

He did decently at Drake. They have trended upwards after him though.
Drake in conference play 4 years under Davis.
7-11
7-11
5-13
6-12
25-47

Last 4years under Kanaskie.
5-13
9-9
8-10
4-14
26-46

Not exactly a miracle worker.

Xavier Foster is a meh, yes on the other 2. Aaron White the #3 all time scorer who had no offers is big time find and evaluation of talent. We had Ullis before Cal swooped in and ****ed us but got his younger brother who I think will be a nice player. It is close but I think Fran is overall better. Fran is a better coach on O but I'd take Dr Tom overall. Again, the differences are so close overall it is basically a push.
