How's your HR department?

We have a small portfolio of companies that account for about 80 million dollars of annual revenue with around 250 total employees, with basically no HR presence.

Each department head handles a lot of things most companies have HR take care of.

It's quite strange

My HR general is not at all hard to look at, and is likely going to be my youngest M-I-L. She joins us for holiday meals. She falls in with my kids age wise. She fits into the family very well.

CSB.

HR departments exist solely to make accounting departments feel useful.

This is the first year that I have to put DEI as a goal in my 2024 performance goals. Just had my 3rd conference call about it.
I had DEI as a goal in 2023. Literally everyone rubber stamped it.

The specific language was start all calls with more than 5 people with a DEI moment. I am not doing that with my client facing calls.

My HR is inept, out of touch, and anything involving leave or pay has been screwed up every time, leading to my employees being underpaid or late paid.

I wish we had an HR department. We had an HR Director a few years ago but when she moved on we outsourced for a bit and then, as a cost cutting measure, cut them loose about a year ago. Makes it tough to get answers on benefit related items but harassment tactics are done without consequence so it's an even trade-off.

Rarely do I like to use absolutes, but this pretty much describes all HR depts.
