Hutton to Indian Hills

I think it is interesting that both he and his high school teammate have transferred. Too far behind do to poor high school coaching?

By then he would have been playing here.

What if Iowa isn't the right level for him to be playing at? Maybe he feels it better to be playing 25 mpg at IH, then go to a low or mid major and play 20-25 mpg for 3 more years then to play 8-10 mpg in 18 games at Iowa.

Keep in mind, I have no idea what he was looking at for PT at Iowa, but this could very well be a reason.

Actually the move makes perfect sense. Why transfer to another D1 school where you have to sit for a 2nd straight year. Can play at Indian Hills and won't have to sit out to where ever he goes to the following year.

Not to mention, Indian Hills has a *really* strong track record of placing players at high-major schools. Off the top of my head, there's Omot/Medford to Baylor, Manyang/Bennett to Oklahoma, of course Hogue/McKay to Iowa State, and a few more recently to Pac 12 schools. Wish all the best to Brandon and would like to see him get a second chance at another D1 program in the future.

Maybe. The word I heard is he had loads of talent but needed a better fundamental understanding of the game. Had trouble with the sets and making decisions on offense and defense. I know when I watch some Chicago HS bb it seems like there is no system at all.

Wow, just wow! That's taking a step up. Brandon should have stuck it out here.

Is there any chance he'd return to the Hawkeye program, after a lil seasoning in
Centerville? Where is Indian Hills? I really dunno

I think that it a return is unlikely. The only time someone transfers, wanting to return, is if the transfer was due to academic issues, and he is heading to junior college to get his GPA back up. I don't think that was Brandon's reason for transferring.

I don't know that Coach McCaffery has a junior college where he would stash someone with academic issues, but I doubt that it would be Indian Hills. Iowa has better historical relationships with Marshalltown or Southeast Community College.

I would agree with the posters who think that this destination makes sense. If you prove that you can play at Indian Hills, you have a chance to land at a high major school. I wish him well.

This move could make a lot of sense for Hutton. From what I have read, he always played a post position growing up because he was pretty tall. This significantly stunted his perimeter development, and unfortunately at the collegiate level, 6' 6" is pretty undersized for a 4.

He seems to have a lot of potential, and the best way for him to reach that potential is through more experience playing the 3 position. If he has a better chance to gain more meaningful experience at a Community College than at Iowa, then this move could be great for him.

It looks like rather than transferring to a D1 immediately he can use the year at a JUCO to refine his game and then see how high he can go to a D1 program.

I have often wondered if that was an option. I'm surprised more second year players who want to transfer don't go that route. Indian Hills also has a four year program as far as education goes but don't think they field a basketball team. It's the college or at least a satellite school that used to be in Storm Lake. I can't ever remember the name.

Buena Vista is the college that has a sattelite program at Indian Hills (and other community colleges in IA). As you mention, a person can get an AA at Indian Hills and then get a BA/BS from Buena Vista all on the campus of Indian Hills.

Of course, Hutton will pursue other options than that.

Most transfers haven't used a redshirt and want to be with their new program sooner than later. Having burned his RS this is a good move and would be for other RS freshmen transfers as well. If you have a RS available go to your new team and learn the system and players.

And can try to elevate his game and get more interest. It was a good move

I'll be interested to see how this guys career ends up. He seemed like he had the makings of an elite defender but was behind on the offensive end, was certainly a great athlete.

Indian Hills has had one of the top junior college men's basketball teams in the country for years. I wish Hutton well. I don't know anything about his academics but that could possibly be a reason for him going the junior college route this year before going back to division I.

Hutton was a reach for the staff, and I don't mind that they reached a little. He had academic struggles, and issues understanding what the coaches were wanting him to do on the court. I hope it works out well for him, primarily in getting a degree from somewhere.

Brandon will be alright when he comes out of IH`s, maybe Wisky or West Virg. will still interested.
