I just don't see better than 4-8 this season.

OL is by and large depleted. We couldn't move the ball with a top 5 NFL draft pick. Look for LOTS of 3 and outs especially with our antiquated offense.

There is not a BIG 10 running back on the roster. Of our top 5 running backs, only three had big 5 scholarship offers besides Iowa (Hilliard: IU and Boston College; LeShun Daniels, Boston College; Canzeri, IU). Offers from IU and BC shouldn't count as a big 5 conference offer!

WR is a mess. Our top 4 receivers had ZERO Big 5 conference offers besides Iowa. T. Smith can make an occasional play as can J. Hilyer. But by and large, no real threat to spread the field.

QB is questionable and TE's are serviceable.

The kicking game is awful.

The DL has no depth and big holes to fill. LB's are slow and inexperienced. DB's are the only strength of the team but are still graded about a B-.

We are staring 4-8 right in the face. Remember this in November when I'm right. I only hope that it means Kirk and Co. are escorted out the door shortly after the final whistle. If we get to six wins, he'll probably get a ten year extension!

My prediction is actually 8 and 4 as I think CJ along with a healthy Daniels at RB will be a boost to the offense and the defense (barring injuries) will be salty. We'll certainly check back in November and see if my, or original poster's prediction, is more accurate.

the fact that Scherff replaced a 1st round draft pick as a RSSO shows it can be done. IA started 4-2 with wins over MSU and Minnesota to start the BT season before Scherff and Donnal went out with injuries for the season is proof enough, DT 4* Johnson was behind NFL Player Davis a 3*.

in both cases KF showed his ability to develop players.

the defense in spite of those new starters at LB finished 17th in D1 total defense, the LB position returns 2 starters and both are now in a position that fits their individual skills.

strange that the op would throw CJ under the bus already.

Why do you think we will win 4 games? Based on your comments, I would think 1 or 2?

Actually, I don't see anything at all for the 2015 season yet. I've always disliked all the speculation, predictions, and prognostications that go with college football, but it's made ESPN rich. We have to listen to all the blather by the sports commentators until their spit dries up and their heads collapse so they can validate themselves, and they pretty much all say NOTHING.
I don't know what Iowa will be like this year, and neither does anybody else. We could go 12-0 or 0-12, or somewhere in between. We'll know after the games are played.

I am just guessing you are a Tea Party guy or at the least a Republican. Positive stuff is for liberals right? Your insight is straight out of Ted Cruz or the new goofy senator from Iowa

Even the national media see the futility of the KF methodical, predictable offense: "The Big Ten West is just plain wide open. The smart money has to be on Wisconsin because even though Melvin Gordon is gone, and Gary Andersen followed him out the door, Paul Chryst steps into a very familiar situation. Meanwhile Nebraska has a new coach and an entirely new system on offense, Iowa still worships the Field Position God over the Points God, Northwestern has fallen back to Earth in recent years, and Illinois and Purdue are still totally Illinois and Purdue."

- Canzeri and Daniels are not only Big Ten backs, they're going to be damn good if they can stay healthy.
- Love our QB. Biggest arm in the Big Ten and can run. Jake the Snake part 2.
- Defense will be improved with strong DL play and LBs now having experience

Things you said that I agree with:
- Kicking game has been terrible. Maybe we can find a soccer player and convert him/her.
- OL lacks depth and experience. Let's see what baby Ferentz can do. Despite people wanting to beat up on him because he's Kirk's son, I still believe he's the best coach on the staff.

Added:
- Really need to find depth at WR. There's gotta be some JUCO talent out there.

We will win more than 4 games. I see 7 at a minimum as the schedule isn't difficult. The OL will come together and at least be average although it will struggle early on. Luckily the non conference slate is easy.

Well cool...you won't have to bother yourself with Iowa football then. Great having you around and good luck.

We have the 2nd easiest power 5 schedule in the country, but how much will that be offset by having Kirk Ferentz as head coach? . A baboon could get to 10 wins with this schedule.. A lab rat could chew his way to 8 wins. An amoeba could get us to 6 wins. So 4 or 5 wins seems about right.

It's not just that Ferentz and staff are coaching. the talent level isn't there either. Ferentz isn't going to coach a weak team into a moderately successful season. He struggles with teams that had better personnel and against only slightly stronger schedules.

Just about every one of the teams on Iowa's roster could beat Iowa even if we played a good game, because that's how "not good" we are.

It's time for you people to get over how weak the schedule is and just f***ing assuming 8 wins should appear out of thin air. And it's not gonna come down to Kirk "screwing it up". It'll just be because they're just not that good.

Deal with it.

and hawkeysports92 wouldn't win a game with this schedule unless he hired the amoeba to explain things to him.

Pretty much disagree with everything you said, expect our punting game. Your prediction will be wrong I would explain but can't go into a detailed respond to post this crazy.

My prediction is actually 8 and 4 as I think CJ along with a healthy Daniels at RB will be a boost to the offense and the defense (barring injuries) will be salty. We'll certainly check back in November and see if my, or original poster's prediction, is more accurate.
That would be a shock to me if we made 8-4, hope that doesn't mean another 10 year contract? If the linebackers and DB's do not improve exponentially there is
no way the D will be salty. I love optimism, what is there to base that on? We played a terribly weak schedule and barely broke .500. I hope CJ is ready!

Schedules do not win games, programs win games. Right now our overall talent level looks to be down.

The non-con will dictate how bad the bleeding is going to be. In fact the first two games will say a lot. Must win 3 of the first 4 to have a shot at 6-7 wins which is not saying much.

I like CJ and the RB's a lot but this O-line could be scary bad given it lost the best 2 players it had.

From a coaching perspective when was the last time, if any, you felt KF got more out of the talent level we had? In fact I usually come away thinking we threw a game or two away each year.

Ummm no, we aren't going to potentially go 12-0 in 2015. Likely nothing close to that.

The OP is right in that there are some serious concerns heading into this year. However, looking 2-5 years backwards at offers coming out of h.s. is just flat out irrelevant at this stage of the game. If you want to criticize on field performance from this past year or spring game, then so be it.

For the offense I predict:

QB - big upgrade in playmaking ability, desperately needed
RB- More speed and quickness, though no true bruiser like MW
WR- very little depth, need strong production (consistency) from Smith, Hillyer
TE - we will be fine here, solid pieces
OL - slight downgrade, but as usual will greatly improve throughout season, finish strong

Would be surprised by 4-8. Thinking 6-6 or 7-5. I'd say 8-4 is a best-case scenario. Would love to be proven wrong in a good way.

Wouldn't us not being any good = Kirk "screwing" it up??

I'm hardly all sunshine and lollipops, but 4 wins is far too pessimistic.
They have a weak schedule no doubt.
They are not overly talent laden.
But, they've got enough there to at least get to .500. I don't see them getting more than 7 wins, but they may squeak another win out somewhere.
