I know how to best support the tragedy in France.

Yeah the color thing is lame, but whatever.

I keep getting lost on the book the last 24 hours. For some reason I can't stop reading the hate and anger that people have demonstrated towards the entire Muslim religion. We live in a very scary time.

Glad to see I am not the only one that thinks this social media bullcrap is ridiculous. Do people really think that is the best way to "support" things these days?

Like i said, just ridiculous. Log off that stupid website and help an old lady across the street instead, you will be doing way more good that way.

Let me put my profile picture on facebook red, white, and blue.

Good grief.

Way to help out, folks.

Sorry, maybe I just really hate facebook and need to stay off of it.

Go Hawks!
I totally agree with this. It's basically saying you're helping without having to actually do anything. Everybody already opposes these terrorists. So saying, "Me, too," doesn't add much.

Yeah, and after 9/11 this was the totally lame French response:

"We are all Americans" o_O What a crock!

Soooo...exactly what are you guys doing to "support the tragedy in France" that's far more effective?

Thanks. No, I haven't acknowledged this in any manner on Social Media, but I get it. And I do like it when other countries make goodwill gestures towards us.

The media coverage here is so over sensationalized and over done, that it's becoming maddening. I'm still in Paris and wondering what city they are talking about. Everyone is moving forward....and going about daily life. Museums and Tourism attractions are closed until Monday. Other than that...it's business as usual here.

Maybe you should ask yourself why this bothers you. This is FB. This is what people do on FB. It should not surprise you one bit.

P.S. I fockin hate FB but am still on it.

i shut mine down over a year ago. it's been pretty great. I don't know if it is amusing or sad when you see everybody in the cafeteria at work with their nose to their phone scrolling facebook.
Which is more sad? People on their phones or people watching people on their phones?

It is sort of silly.

When they remove the French flag background, does that mean they no longer support France?

this is by design. muslims did not orchestrate and do 9-11. muslims did not do much of anything, yet this is what the new world order wants: for us and france and the western world to hate muslims so that we can drone bomb and nuke innocents over there in the middle east

kinda hard to not notice a cafeteria full of people with a majority of them with their nose buried on their phones, sport.

I know being the internet and all, its the thing to do to be a smartass...just wish you wouldn't suck at it so bad

The best part of this thread is all the people who hate FB but know exactly what's going on...on FB.

And I'm still waiting to find out what they're doing to "best support the tragedy in France" that's so superior. So far...not a single post.

you gotta admit, facebook is pretty predictable in regards to what people post
there have been a handful of times over the past year when I have texted my friend (after seeing something on the news or something) and would be like "let me guess, facebook is filled with posts about _______", and he would confirm that indeed, that particular topic was filling his feed that particular point in time.

Absolutely predictable. As is the response.

Know what is worse than FB whores? People who complain about said FB whores and brag about how much they want to quit FB and how they did and it is so life changing. FB is no different than HROT.

Why do people always bitch and effing moan about facebook and post it on here. We don't give a flying flip what your facebook buddies do.

Is this terribly different than people reading a book?

I use my lunch (when I am able to take one) to catch up on a book many times. Sometimes that book happens to be on my phone's Kindle app.

i guess if you equate a reading a book with reading facebook posts. I know a lot of the talking that breaks out in between scrolling, at least with the people I sit with, is usually centered around what someone posted or saw on facebook (insert comment of how much pleasure I must be to sit with when facebook is more entertaining).

I used to be the same way. scrolling through my feed at work, at sporting events or concerts etc.

I guess I just find it interesting and weird how much of a hold facebook has on people and how they will ignore the people around them or not pay attention to whats happening around them because they are too busy on their phone.

So this reply is different. You made it sound like you don't like walking in to a room and seeing people being absorbed in an activity that causes them to not engage the people around them. That is the same thing that happens when I read a book.

What you actually don't like is people being on Facebook and talking about it. Which I concede is nothing like when I read a book.

Now that I understand your issue I get the complaint. Of course if a group of people chooses not to engage you, I wonder why you choose to sit with them.

Yeah, i guess it fascinates me to a point to see how people are obsessed about it. like i said, I was the same way...i just found it got to be unproductive and a time suck.

As far as sitting with people during lunch who don't really engage in too much conversation because they are catching up with their newsfeed...it is what it is *shrugs*

Or get a "safe space." ;)

For the record, I don't get on FB because I would never check it. I rarely check my email. However, I try not to rip on people who do like FB.
I am on there and I never check in, I like to make fun of people who are obsessed with it and make it their everything, but I do that with hrot so I cannot really blame them- I think it's usually women who are obsessed with it however I know a few guys who do it as well

You know what I think is worse? The people that complain about the complainers about Facebook.

It just makes me realizes how much i genuinely hate people and what attention whores they are.

QC, u may be right.

You have genuine hate for someone because they changed their Facebook colors? Seems extreme, but a good way to keep the friend count low and save time on happy birthday wishes.

Lunchtime is for socializing. You are supposed to catch up on newsfeeds, fb, etc, while you're at your desk. Geesh...
