If you are into rooting against someone. I’m kinda torn tonight.
Steve Alford vs Bobby Hurly.

Never was a fan of Stevie boy. Never care for a coach that throws their players under the bus.

I picked asu. They beat some good teams and played some others close. I was surprised to see Nevada had such a good record against tournament teams.

Nevada getting their a$$es kicked. There were questions about them being put in the tournament over Rutgers.... But hard to say Rutgers should have been IN, when they lost in the first round of the NIT as a 1 seed.

ASU also looking to be THAT good. Could make a run in the tournament

I'm a total believer the NIT is all about whether or not you want to play. The teams that do tend to win these first round games pretty easy. If not, well, look at the scores tonight.

#1 Clemson lost to Morehead St.
#3 New Mexico currently down 15 to Utah Valley
#4 Florida lost by almost 20 to UCF
Last night #4 Washington St. lost to Eastern Washington

This is the 2nd time Redacted has lost in a Dayton First Four game in his career. His previous time was while coaching UCLA. Add that to his multiple first round losses as a 3 seed.

Yeah he has 4 sweet sixteens in his career, but three of those were at UCLA where a crash test dummy could have coached that talent to a sweet sixteen. And two of those benefitted from his 2nd round opponent having win an upset in the their first round matchup.

If there was a definition in the dictionary for “Failing Upward” his picture would be next to it.

Maybe UNC was right?

That had to be a bitter pill for Stevie to swallow to see 2 of his former players now starting for ASU.

I almost felt bad for him.... almost

It's why I shake my head whenever I inexplicably see someone say they wish Alford was back here. I don't see it often, but I HAVE seen people say it after Fran loses a game he shouldn't have, especially if the team looked like garbage. Alford had PLENTY of those types of games in the 41% of the games he coached for us where he lost.

How much money has Alford collected over the years? What a racket.
I'm no Alford fan, but he's now taken how many teams to the NCAA tournament?

Indiana (as a player)
Missouri State (Sweet 16)
Iowa (#3 seed one year)
New Mexico (#3 seed twice)
UCLA (Sweet 16)
Nevada

Like him personally or not, not many coaches have that kind of resume.

Or you could say the mid majors got a chance to play a Power 6 team in an opportunity they rarely get and showed what can happen.

You neglected to mention that none of Alford's #3 seeds made the Sweet 16, and the only team at UCLA that made it was due to the Clones flaming out as a 3 seed allowing UCLA to play a lower seed.

Why does anyone care about Steve Alford?
I really don't care about him at all. His name just keeps getting brought up on this forum. If he never coached another game of basketball it wouldn't bother me a bit. (Just hope if that happens he doesn't become an analyst on a channel I watch.)

Right, count the times he got in as a player with Bobby Knight, like he did it single handedly.
Go back and look at his record in the tourney, which a lot of people seem to think is the only measure. He lost twice in the first round as a 3 seed, once at Iowa, and once at New Mexico (to Harvard!). His other 3 seed at NM didn't make it out of the 2nd round.
Taking UCLA to the Sweet 16? So what?
