I was wrong about Garza

I can admit it, I was wrong about Garza. I think he can be a solid NBA player. However, I think he could be well served by staying another year in school. No, he isn't going to get much more athletic. His vertical isn't going to improve much and neither will his quickness. However, he can become better at passing, rebound positioning, and as a defender. He can continue to get better at his "Jack Sikma" and long range shot too. With another jump like he did this past summer, a top 10 pick is not out of the question. He will have a long and profitable career. Nice work, Luka!

It will be interesting to see what he does after the season is over. Will he come back and try to be Iowa's all time leading scorer. With 3 or 4 games left in this season he could easily be less then 500 points from Roy Marbles 2116 points. Very doable, even if he doesn't average the same as this year.
Iowa could be very dangerous next year if everyone returns, but one thing is for curtain, Fran and his staff have to get his players more involved on the defensive end, they've shown flashes of good defense but it just hasn't been consistent enough to win on the road. If Garza comes back to win a Big Ten Championship that has to change to fulfill his dreams.
Having Wieskamp, Fredrick, Bohannan, Connor, Toussaint, Nunge, Patrick, and evidently Pemsl returning, could sway Garza to come back and make a go of it. We shall see....

He needs to get stronger.

He needs to hire some new referees, or maybe Luka could be a national champion at heavy weight for the Iowa wrestling team. He sure as hell has had plenty of practice in getting held, taken down, and escaping. But being victimized by those full nelsons hook and holds, and stalling on the basketball court can get kind of old.

Needs to get stronger. LOL

Did we ask for your comment Bucky?

All I know is I'm happy the NCAA made this move a couple years ago...

NCAA to allow more flexibility for college basketball players considering the NBA

the NCAA on Wednesday announced policy changes related to the sport, including allowing top players to sign with agents while in school and letting players who enter the NBA draft but are not chosen to retain their college eligibility.

The changes include more flexibility for athletes deciding whether to pursue professional opportunities in the sport. Previously, athletes who declared for the NBA draft and attended the NBA combine could return to school only if they withdrew within 10 days following the combine. Now players will be able to return to school if they are not drafted.

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that this is your idea of sarcasm.

Not at all. He needs to get stronger. When he plays against strong athletic guys he drifts to the edge and settles for outside shots. He did it in the first half instead of going right at cockburn and getting him in foul trouble he went outside.

You act like Garza is an NBA all star that can't get better. He might not be able to improve his athleticism and vertical but he can control getting stronger. He will need to do so if he wants to play in the NBA and doing so will only improve his game next year as a senior.

Once again yes he does need to get stronger. He wants to play in the NBA he is going the get muscled around. He gets pushed around when facing guys like cockburn.

He will but he's improved there greatly. He manhandled everyone in the league except Cockburn who weighs almost 300 lbs. You can tell he doesn't have the stamina to stay up with Luka with out rest periods. Honestly Kofi would be well served to lose about 15 to 20 pounds.

That last play will be every night in the NBA for Garza. He'll have a long and prosperous career overseas.

That's really moronic when he put close to 30 points on Cockburn.

Garzas offense would work just fine in the nba....if any nba teams were interested in having a post up type offense. The reality is they aren't very interested in post offense.

What will make it very difficult for Garza to play in the nba is defense.

NBA 5s have to guard on the perimeter. They dont play zone in the nba.

Cockburn is bigger and stronger than most 5s in the nba.

But I agree adding strength can only help.

He didn't do that in the paint all that much against cockburn at all. He got shoved around by Cockburn and that happens when he plays bigger athletic guys.

Stop treating it as anything other than the truth. Garza needs to get stronger. It isn't an insult like some of you are treating it. He drifts to the perimeter when the person he is playing against is stronger than him.

The good news is his engine allows him to do that and log more minutes than those other players. He then gets his interior points when he plays against the smaller guys or when the bigger guys get tired

Terrific, no where did I suggest he did. However he did score plenty in the paint against him in the first matchup.

Second, what's wrong with scoring on the perimeter?
