I wish our rebuilding years were like Wisconsin's rebuilding years.

and that's my point..we have had several really good teams in Iowa BB history...under Lute we finished 2nd three straight years...in 1987 we finished 4th...repeating 4th...that same team was a half of a game away of making it to the Final 4.

the whole point is this Refuge fellow has a mind set that its a B1G title or Fran has failed. It just isn't that easy...I agree, Fran has the program IMO at its best position to make that B1G title come true...but also to do some damage in the BTT as well as in NCAA..BUT we are a little ways a way.

TODAY... we just need to handle Nebby..one step one game...as these Freshman move toward the ultimate goal.

in 1979 no one was expecting a tie for the championship...while we took care of NW on the final Saturday of the season Purdue knocked off O$U...and Wisc upset Magic & MSU at the buzzer..3way tie..Iowa & MSU get the NCAA invite..Purdue was sent to NIT...we all know who the national champion ended up being..the same team that we shared the B1G title with.

in 1968..which was a team similar to this year in that we had an all-American in Sam Williams..with several 1st year players in Calabria, Vidnovic, Jensen...
this year Jok with several 1st year starters.

I was at the 1968 last game against Michigan..we win..we win the title outright....you could feel the pregame buildup..we never led the game & got behind early 15-2..we fought back to make it a 1point game..will never forget when Williams heaved a full court shot that damn near went in...still have the tic stub & little score card from that game. That game was historic..a lot of sad Iowa fans that night despite a tie for the champship with O$U.

Love those stories from days done by. Were you a student in the late 60's?

I bet you have lots of stories from Ralph Miller's days. They sound like fun times in the old Fieldhouse.

The old Fieldhouse was great! Unless you had one of those seats behind a pole. I watched an entire season of Iowa basketball in college without seeing one of the baskets.

I was a student in high school ... was fortunate in that had a bro-in-law & sister (both are deceased) who were active in Iowa athletics (especially basketball)...because of them not only did I get the chance to go to games beginning in 1965 but it also started my love for the Hawkeyes. Yes I am a homer.

They also were close to the players during this time and in some players' case very close. I had the chance to hang around players in practices & locker rooms but also at family events..suppers, etc. ... anyone remember the Campus Grill?

Have a lot of stories some of which should not be repeated....but it did instill in me an appreciation for what these guys go thru..on the court but also the stuff that happens off the court. The game has changed but it is stilled played by college students.
