Many of us have complained in recent years about the lack of quality competition for the Iowa City Duals. Last year we saw a glimmer of hope as Iowa added B1G rival Maryland to the event. Unfortunately this year it's back to Iowa Central and Cornell College.

Another frustration we've dissected is that UNI has not been on Iowa's schedule recently. It just doesn't sit right that an in-state rival with a head coach from Iowa isn't on the schedule every year. To right two wrongs I make the following proposal:

Rotate Iowa State and UNI into the Iowa City Duals every other year. Starting in 2017 ISU would partcipate and Iowa would wrestle at Ames in 2018. Conversely, Iowa would wrestle at West Gym in 2017 and UNI would participate in 2018. This would work UNI into the schedule with a home and away concept and add more interest in the IC Duals. It would also have an all-Iowa flavor that could be fun to promote.

The final ingredient is finding the right date. It would need to be on a day that fans could attend. Fridays wouldn't work unless the UNI/ISU portion is held in the evening or it's the Friday after Thanksgiving.

Anyway, just providing TnT with some options from a fan's perspective (we all know they read these boards and take tips from wrestlings greatest fans).

or how about all three teams get together every year and have it on a rotating schedule. Starting in '17 Iowa hosting, in '18 iowa state host, and 19' uni host. for uni to host this it would have to be in the McLeod center. have the duals start around 6 pm and the other one starting around 7:30. each school that is hosting will wrestle the other 2 teams.

2017- IA wrestles uni and iowa state. (as uni already wrestles ia state at a later date) Iowa Hosting
2018- IA state wrestles uni and Iowa...IA State Hosting
2019- UNI wrestles iowa and ia state... Uni Hosting

or something on those lines

Why not an annual Best of Iowa throwdown on one day. Iowa-Iowa State and UNI triangular rotating from Carver to Hilton either the Unidome or the McLeod Center. The West Gym may be historic but too small.

There could be a America Needs Farmers theme and some "Corny" traveling trophy. Similar to the CyHawk but includes UNI.

must be a slow day having to resort to be bemoaning the Iowa schedule especially this year, having PSU, OSU, Nebby and Wisc all at home this year must be pretty rough to live with

I would like to see UNI back on the schedule, but I'm NOT a fan of a triangular with ISU and UNI. Only get to host once every three years, and the triangular takes away from the prestige of the individual dual meets.

As for the IC Duals, I would like to see 4 or 5 other teams there like in the past. Don't have to be top flight D1s imo, as there are already plenty of those on the schedule. More teams means more feels for the starters and/or more chances to get back-ups and rookies match experience in Carver. And it would be more wrestling for the fans. Moving the start time back an hour or two would also be nice.

All that being said, I trust that TnT and staff are doing what they feel is best for the program, and I realize that some aspects of scheduling may be outside their control .

It's not a matter of griping about the home schedule as a whole, which is spectacular this year as you say, but the Iowa City Duals specifically. It's always great to see the guys in competition, but the Iowa City Duals are a known snoozer that have traditionally featured local small schools that don't pose any challenge at all, and Iowa fans have been clamoring for better competition at the Iowa City Duals for quite some time now.

I like the Iowa Duals the way they are, but I like it best when there are four teams so Iowa gets three matches. We go every year - very relaxing day sitting in Carver watching a lot of matches and seeing some new Iowa wrestlers. Good excuse to take a vacation day from work.

The Iowa Duals are a good way for the new/potential starters in the Iowa line-up to get some matches in Carver against mostly beatable competition. Iowa has plenty of tough competition on the schedule and in the room - they don't need to wrestle ranked opponents every match.

It is also good for those teams that come to the Iowa Duals, like Cornell College. Cornell Coach Duroe seems to have a great relationship with the Iowa coaches. Duroe probably likes making the short trip to Carver each year with his team. Even though they get waxed by Iowa, they win a match once in a while and get good matches against the other teams at the Iowa Duals.

Over the years, there have been a lot of Iowa kids on the teams competing at the Iowa Duals. This provides the opportunity for those kids to wrestle at Carver, against Iowa, even though they aren't necessarily D1 level. Cornell College and Iowa Central attend the Iowa Duals pretty consistently. I would really like to see Coe College come to the Iowa Duals on a regular basis. If they aren't available, Iowa needs to work harder to get a fourth team to attend, like Upper Iowa or Grand View, or one of the many D3 teams in Iowa like Simpson, Luther, etc. Those teams are filled with Iowa kids we've watched in the area or in Des Moines at the state tourney, so it would be great to see them competing at the Iowa Duals.
