If all stay healthy

How many teams with a defensive efficiency rating of 100+ have made the final 4? I know the answer but it’s best if you learn these things on your own my researching it.

This early in the season they have plenty of time to tighten up on Defense it’s called “improvement”. Secondly there has already been a huge improvement between the performance at Michigan and last nights performance. I’m shocked you haven’t learned about that.

A number of posters seem to confuse defense with shooting results. MI knocked down most of their wide open looks and MN couldn’t throw it in the ocean if they were wading in it.

Our 3 point D probably wasn’t as bad as it looked against MI or as good as it seemed against MN. We didn’t get lost on the baseline versus MN nearly as much and there was improvement in that area.

Without Bohannon, the Hawkeyes have
Garza, Wieskamp Fredrick, Connor,
Kreiner, Toussaint, and 2 guys who take
up space in Pemsl, and Evelyn.

This is a team without depth with the loss
of Nunge and Bohannon. Riley Till will get
more minutes and that will not compensate.

This team could make the Sweet 16 or the NIT, it has a much higher ceiling then most Iowa teams of late but also could be derailed by another injury or 2 or inconsistent D/rebounding-See Michigan game.

MN is trash on the hardwood, they are not a good measuring stick for improvement.

I love the optimism. Making the tournament and winning a couple of games is realistic.

If Fran makes the tournament this season, with this injury littered roster it will be one of his best coached seasons ever regardless of they win 1 game in the tourney.

Yes and No, I think this team is much more well rounded then past teams and we have a much higher ceiling at Guard now too with or without Bohannon with CJ, Connor playing much better now and Touissant.

Touissants defense last night, WOW, he was so disruptive in the game. Every once in a while he would not make the best decisions on the offensive side when taking time/score into account but his D last night was magnificent and offensively while he has a few things to clean up he didn’t hurt the team and even made some plays.

That kid is going to be a monster in the BIG as he progresses.

Yes it is, he can get to the hoop and has a nice shot and I think he makes well over 70% of his FTs without looking anything up, we haven't had this type of speed in YEARS.....This team does not have a weakness on Offense they just have to commit to some form of D and Rebound better if they can do that consistently they can beat anyone in the BIG home or away....Will be ups and downs this year for sure though. Protect the home court and go from there.

I have serious doubts that this team is going to hold up health wise all year, but they are fun to cheer for

also, the end of the schedule is tough as hell so let’s gets the “late season collapse” narrative out of here right now.

My bar is set at Fran making the final 4 of the BTT. It would be nice to see a Fran team make a run if they are a little lite on their tournament resume instead of the usual 50-50 first round game followed by a loss in round 2. Something with Fran and second rounds apparently.

Minnesota has played a tough schedule and been right there in every game. Their guards shot poorly last night, but they have talent and are going to win some games.

Shooting percentages tend to skew the reality of either offensive/defensive performances... imho

Hawks cannot afford more injuries, so thread has the right premise. I have mixed feelings about JBo playing this year. We need him. Last night, was a weird statistical game. JBo didn't score, but had a big contribution with 10 assists and 5 boards. Connor contributed big with his team defense and toughness, but had zero assists. Minny's most talented player IMO did an o-fer, which probably won't happen again this year.

This is a team that come could go a long long ways in the tournament. Dare I say Final Four?

Lofty expectations/hope. They will work all season long to become tournament qualified and tournament ready. There is reason for hope, but we have to string some wins together, especially late in season. Right now we're sort of W,L,W,L, since the TT game. Much work to be done.

Remember how people were freaking out with a couple of the lineups last night that had no ability to score, imagine extended minutes for that bunch.

If JBo hangs it up after Thursday, there could be more of that. It becomes a thin bench playing in one of the most physical conferences in the country.
Freshmen will hit the wall in Feb. like they do on most teams.

Teams still have to respect his shooting, when that threat is removed it takes a lot of pressure off the D.

So might want to just pull back a bit on such lofty expectations.

No, because JoBo isnt at full strength and/or could take the medical redshirt after the game on Thursday.

However, that is not to say Iowa fans cant enjoy this team for what it is.

I was looking at this too. Our schedule this year is just brutal and the timing of when we play people seems nuts. But all you can do is play them as they come and see what happens.
