What a game this man had vs. Iowa.!
And, to think, he was a walk-on.!?
Hoping Illini doesn't have a Shobert clone.
Haven't seen a N western game or Illini game yet this year.
I guess I will in the next 12 days.
Looking forward to it !
Go Hawks!

Joe Schobert had zero FBS or FCS offers according to Rivals. That's not a diamond in the rough --its a pearl at the bottom of the ocean.

,,,and Schobert's game against Iowa wasn't a fluke. He was 2nd in QB sacks and 1st in TFLs among all B10 players heading into the Iowa game.

FWIW, Iowa may have a Schobert clone in 2016 recruit Kristian Welch out of Iola, Wisconsin. Only bigger. Schobert was 6ft2 190 out of HS and Welch is 6ft4 215 now. Both have very good LB instincts and super motors.

He was unbelievable, everywhere all the time! I was getting sick of him towards the end of the game!!

If we get to face Ohio State in the championship game they've got his equal.

Who was getting beat by Schobert ?? Was it Croston? Hope he improves this week - got to keep CJ back there long enough to throw the ball

No single player was beaten consistently by him. He moved around a lot on the rush. Half the time nobody even bothered to attempt to block him. Fantastic player that Iowa needed to devote A LOT more attention to.

On one of his stunts, he stayed close to the line, bolted by Blyth.
Made Blyth look real bad, might have been one of CJ's worst hits taken that day.
So I think he beat alot of people Saturday.

Well observed, Birky. Not fair to spot out any one blocker as being consistently beat. I did notice several outstanding plays versus Ike, Cole and Canzeri. Joe's day, stat-wise, surpassed anything I recall from JJ Watt or the legendary Tom Burke.

He is a hell of a player. The 3-4 scheme is a great fit for his strengths. He would probably have to put his hand on ground as a DE in a 4-3

We'll see how he does from here on out. Having an amazing game is one thing but in the future he'll see a lot more double teams than Iowa put up against him. Of course, if teams do that then it could open up other options.

Iowa did have a RB rush for 125 yards Saturday. Hes a good players, hes gonna time snaps, guess right at times. He was also blocked plenty of times as well.

There were also plays where Iowa chose not to give help when he had been a disruptive force on the previous consecutive number of series.

A player can be great but you can also make him look even greater if you let him....

You are absolutely correct and I would anticipate some double teaming in Lincoln on Saturday. Should present opportunities for the other OLB Vince Biegel and SS Michael Caputo.

“I put them on par with Alabama, maybe even a little more,” Schobert told the Dubuque Telegraph Herald. “They want to hit you more than Alabama wants to hit you. Alabama is a good, physical offensive line, but I think Iowa kind of takes it to that next step and wants to run at you and wants to physically punch you. We knew that coming in and they lived up to it today. It was just great competition between us and them.”

Wow! That was classy !! His comment means a lot. He had a great game and pro scouts had to be drooling ( at least little )..a disruptor. Sort of reminded me of Green way.

Who is the fastest of the Iowa linebackers this year? Not comparing with Schobert, just curious. Thx

The dude almost single-handedly won the game for Wisconsin.

Reminded me - going into the way-back-machine now - Tim Dwight's efforts in a losing cause against Michigan in '97, iirc.

Sconnie fans had to have been shaking their heads Saturday as I did after that Michigan game. Such an amazing individual effort only to come up just fractionally, and agonizingly ... short.

Good thing I lack the Badger-sympathy gene.
