If there had never been a Third Reich, who would be our go-to evil regime for lame comparisons?

Godwin's Law seems way too prevalent these days. Let's pretend for a moment that the Nazis never existed. No Holocaust. No World War II.

Who would we use as our comparison for everything we dislike?

All kidding aside, to honestly come up with an equally corrupt, group of people who are vile and a scourge to the human race there is only one choice

Yeah but they actually have to lead something for an apt comparison...well beyond number of fat chicks.

Our government. Duh. We accomplished everything Hitler couldn't. We did this by being friends with Jews. He has that part wrong.

Lone Clone should know. He probably remembers how the arguments went back before the nazis came around.

Actually, Stalin and the USSR seems to me to be the the most likely answer. Although, it's honestly hard to project an appropriate response given the significant changes in variables. The alterations within the space-time continuum possess endless possibilities.

It's also possible the designated hitter may not have come to fruition.

Stalin then W......

Seriously, listen to MSNBC. Bush practically sent our soldiers to the guillotine in the Middle East.

Mao killed way more people than Stalin. It is estimated he starved, tortured, and beat between 45 and 72 million people to death.

Stalin makes the most sense.

In fact given that he was in power for longer I wouldn't be too surprised if he out did Hitler in terms of body count.

Britain's colonial empire was pretty brutal. I'd add that to contenders Stalin and Imperial Japan. The US record of overthrowing and exploiting nations - especially in Latin America - is pretty despicable, too. Obviously WE wouldn't be calling ourselves the "go-to evil regime" but others might.

There were some bad ones over the course of time: Genghis Khan, Attila the Hun, Ivan the IV, Vlad Tepes, of previous centuries. Don't forget Leopold II of Belgium during the 1800's; killed several million Congolese.

The wing uses "Liberals." What is wrong with that?

I assumed we were talking about the powers in the 1930s, absent Hitler. Not that you're wrong but their time(s) had passed.

DOW briefly down 1000.

Okay, that makes sense. I'll add a couple of others (though their years of power may not fit the criteria precisely): Enver Pasha and Chiang Kai-shek. Although, Mao and Stalin certainly were the worst if you're not including Hitler.

It could be any evil regime in history. Doesn't have to be from the 30s/40s. I'm just curious which maniacal despot political hacks would use to compare Obama or Bush or any political figure with which they disagree, if Hitler was taken off the board.

I think use of the term "Nazis" is just kind of unique. None of the other regimes throughout history had that sort of moniker. I suppose maybe "the Huns" would come closest, perhaps "Mongols".

If it's individual names, then I think Stalin, Mao, Attila the Hun, Genghis Khan, would be the most likely.

The term does lend itself quite well to labeling political enemies.

Quit being an asshole. Oh, that's right, it's beyond your capacity.
I thought I was quite tasteful, if I wanted to be an a-hole I could have gone on and on about all the problems bill Clinton and bush and Obama have caused lately, the dead bodies, the explosions, buildings coming down, and how jeb and or Hillary, would bring much of the same
