If there's one thing the CFP has taught me it's that Iowa doesn't stand a chance to win a Natty. Ever.

It's always been pay to play, now it's different because everybody's in on it and the big schools can't prohibit anybody outside of its circle by do it through NCAA penalties and violations.

I came to realize this long before the playoff format. I honestly don’t understand how anyone could think Iowa has a shot at a NC in today’s college game.
If Ricky Stanzi wouldn't have gotten hurt, the 2009 team could have stood a chance. Now with NIL/portal I'm not sure it's ever possible. Too easy to leave the team rather than lean into it's multi year development.

JFC, the Debbie downers in this thread are comical. Iowa will make the CFP, and I’d be willing to bet we will win a few playoff games as well. Iowa has a strong program and the fan support is second to none.

Hate to break it to you, but Iowa will get to the CFP before FSU. We are a top 20 program by almost every metric that matters.
I don’t think FSU will be there for a while, but has a better shot in the (easier) ACC.

When exactly do you anticipate Iowa finishing 1 or 2 in the Big Ten?

Technically accurate, but the committee learned their lesson putting Indiana in. I don’t think a third or fourth place Iowa team gets in over SEC teams going forward.
You can think whatever you want. I think the SEC and B1G will have more teams in the coming years. The ACC is fvcking clown shoes and ASU is gonna get smoked. Book it.

I agree the Big 10 traditional powers will get in and the SEC will be deep in the CFP. Everyone else will be playing for scraps.

I think you’re deluding yourself about Iowa’s chances, but I understand.

It's cute you thought we had a chance in the ESPN era. Not a chance anyone was ever letting us in the championship before. We could be undefeated and they would have invented a reason to put in a 1 loss sec team over us.

At least in this model we have a punchers chance. Unless of course people allow ESPN to set the narrative like they were trying to do with Indiana and smu.

lol, this is cute coming from a nole. Listen, Iowa is more relevant than you care to admit and FSU is a mess currently. I understand.

Stop being so emotional. I’m not making any claims about FSU or any excuses. We are a disaster.

You think the committee is putting in a third place Iowa team over Alabama or even a mid-level SEC team with the same record you are high. Maybe not fair but I really doubt it.

I’m not emotional. I’m using logic. Iowa will finish top 4 in the B1G in the foreseeable future. That’s all we need to get in. The ACC on the other hand needs to be 1 or 2 because it’s a joke. Sorry, not sorry.

Ok, I guess we’ll see.

Everyone was ripping on Indiana last night after losing to ND in such a lopsided way. As it turns out, 24 hours later all the other lower seeded teams got smoked in the same fashion. The 12 team playoff is just a ruse. A feel good hopeful moment for the teams that really don't belong against the blue bloods. And then reality will sink in. Football isn't basketball where a team can get hot for a couple days and make a deep run. In summary, the CFP sucks. And it shows even more that the Hawks will never be NT winners. Booooooooooooo!

I don't know why everybody's concerned with whether Iowa is going to be able to lay a turd in a playoff game when we should be shooting for the pop tart or cheez it bowl so we can at least watch the mascot dance

They will if these f***ing adult-aged kids stop going to all these other f***ing schools and start going to Iowa so we can win a national championship.

Thank you for the options.

Where do you live? Are you married?

One thing you all need to consider is how the talent in CFB is starting to spread out. Even the SEC Blue bloods are bitching they can't keep their 2nd and 3rd team 4&5 stats anymore. Depth is going to be an issue going forward.

A program like Iowa can develop players and compete every few years or so.

To be fair you just made the claim "They learned their lesson from Indiana" who was the 4th place team at 11-1. If Alabama was 11-1 they'd definitely be in.

Iowa benefited greatly from playing in the West. This season might have been Iowa’s best chance for a playoff birth.

They only played one power team. They could have lost 80-0 and still made playoff if they didn’t lose to 3 mediocre teams.

Not sure how far future schedules go out but they would need a lot of luck to get a softer schedule.

Having 3 protected rivalries in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Nebraska, plus 3 soft non-con means 6 games will be manageable. The luck is if we can draw maybe 1 of OSU, Oregon, Michigan, Penn State out of the 17 possible choices for the other 6 slots..

Then the trick is to not f*ck it up.

It's a mentally ill Nebraska fan. He takes our rivalry too personally and it affects him on an emotional level. If he didn't have the internet as an outlet to vent his bitterness, I'd genuinely fear for the safety of those around him in real life.
