What happens?

I know I know, let's beat a dead horse some more. Still, an interesting conversation topic, especially now with it being the off season. lol.

Not sure why I feel this way, really, but for some reason I think he ends up being the All-American monster stud if he goes to UNC.

Maybe I just have more faith in Cheatin' Roy than I do Fran, which is unfortunate, and not necessarily accurate.

Your visions?

All American monster stud? I seriously hope u r kidding. Th answer is UNC ain't playing last nite if Woodbury goes to UNC.

Wow pretty harsh for a guy who led the B1G in rebounding and was the defensive leader of the team. He struggled offensively but definitely wasn't in the top 3 for issues of the team.

He doesn't see more than 3-5 min per game. Hicks and Meeks take all of his minutes. Even James plays more than he would, and James wears oven mitts to the game.

You must really hate Fran because you are full of it. It's not even a conversation let alone an interesting one.

I'm not so sure about that. I, for one, would have liked to have a post presence and just imagine what that could have done for Jarrod and Pete? Woody is 7 feet tall and never developed ANY kind of footwork or go to move in the post. Whether you wish to blame Fran & Co for not forcing more work on that part of his game, or Woody for not doing that on his own, I don't care. It just makes me sick that a four year player never developed a single post move that we could count on for a good look.

I think Woody would have been a solid backup at UNC. Lets face it,he would have had more help from other players in their games.
What we do not know is how he would have developed under their coaching staff and battling very high level players in practice every day.

The B1G/ACC challenge game at UNC would have been very interesting with Woody and Paige in Carolina blue.

He would have probably filled the role of Isaiah Hicks. 15-20 minutes off the bench to rest the starters.

Hicks was a McDonald's All American and is a lot better than Woodbury. I don't think Woodbury would have seen much playing time at all.

The only adjustment I witnessed in Woodbury's game was from his sophomore to junior year. He started taking the 8-10 foot elbow and base line jumpers and had some success. I took this as part development and part surrender on his low post game. Unfortunately this mid-range game did not evolve this season, despite teams daring him to take it. Lots of possessions where this would have a better shot than a heave from 3 or a Uthoff back foot fade away from 17 feet. Maybe he just lost confidence in it.

It's not unusual for a team to take a player they're not sure about just to keep him from going elsewhere.

Huh, most of you folks don't have much faith in Woody.

I think he would have dominated even more if he went to UNC.

Maybe he puts on even more muscle, develops his offense game better.

For you to say he would have been riding the pine I think are delusional.

That's even crazier than saying he would be a stud.

He wouldn't have played much at all and it likely would not have effected UNC at all.

I don't think Woody would play at all for this year's UNC team. Gesell would not play either, nor Clemmons.

Trying to hard.

My guess would be he would have transferred somewhere after his soph year.
I love Woody. He was a good, solid Hawkeye. I do believe, however, this the correct answer.

When Woody picked the Hawks, he made a great decision for both himself and his career.

Was Woody underutilized as a Hawk? Perhaps. He is a very good passer, and he could have been used more in a facilitator role. But his athletic limitations never would have allowed him to break into the rotation at North Carolina.

Bottom line, you're not playing center for North Carolina if you can't drop step and dunk or go off two feet in traffic to jump. He just couldn't do it (running start off of 1 foot, yes; two feet, 1-2 step, no).

Every coach, even Roy, K, and Izzo have recruiting misses; I'm afraid Woody would have ultimately fallen into that category as well.

He would have had five dunks and UNC national champs. He also would have graduated in 2.5 years.

You're right; I can easily see him beating out Hicks or Meeks and even Johnson and dominating the ACC. This is supported by the fact that he dominated against.....oh.....NOBODY he played in his career here.
Unless your sarcasm was so stealth nobody here picked up on it, you may want to cut back on the chemicals.

You can never question Woody's work ethic, hustle, heart or toughness. Just wish his finesse and coordination around the basket was a little better. (You either have it or you don't.) If it was, he would've been an AA and appearing on NBA draft boards right now.

So, had he went to UNC, like others have said, he probably would've contributed, but not as much as he did here.
