This is exactly what we are: 25-35th ranked team in the country. Not going to win anything meaningful, won’t really lose to bad teams. Problem is in the 12-team playoff era that leads to apathy pretty darn quick if we no longer have anything to play for. At least playing in the Big 10 West we knew we could earn a birth to the conference championship, that doesn’t exist anymore.

I think that Iowa football is still a decent name brand and can be salvaged once The Captain beats the record / steps down. We have not been relevant in basketball in 40 years….
If both don’t step down soon, Lickliter-awful is going to happen. Fran is 65 and Kirk is almost 70. At some point, you have to recognize Father Time is undefeated.
I’m actually somewhat optimistic about the men’s hoops team this year.
Fran has been quite tame this year with a quiet confidence about him. I think it’s helped his demeanor to not have a son on the team.

That’s awesome. We had a bad hire once 20 years ago, so now we’ve learned our lesson - never get rid of a coach who doesn’t finish dead last for multiple seasons in a row or isn’t quite 95 years old.
