If you want to watch Jenica Lewis and Journey Houston in HS playoffs today

Johnston is by far the favorite right? They are rolling Liberty right now. Jenkins the sophomore for Johnston looks really good.

Johnston is the favorite but Dowling won’t be a pushover, They lost by 7 at Johnston and lost by 2 at home vs Johnston, Their other loss was to Maddyn Greenways Providence Academy team by 2 at Providence Academy.

I am looking forward to watching Journey Houston today, I have seen highlights of her games but this will be my first chance to actually watch her play and the fact it is against really good competition is nice.

Nothing earth shattering by Jenica Lewis. good team scoring balance. JL with eight points.

I'd like to see Lauren Walker from DeWitt Central play. She was the best player on the floor in the two games they played against Davenport North which includes D-1 recruits Bourage and Houston. In fact she was the player of the year in the MAC conference. It's hard to believe she's going to be playing college ball at D-3 Lewiston U in Illinois. No D-1 offer is puzzling. Perhaps her 5'-8" height is a factor.

Mueller is much better than what I saw last year in a couple games, another year and she may be dominant. D. North was overwhelmed, but man, I've watched Bourrage play about 5 or 6 times, and every time, I cannot fathom how she is a 5 star player. She can't beat average Iowa girls off the dribble, how is she gonna do against D1 girls?

I may be way off but it kinda seems like Iowa is recruiting her as a fallback option. I know you have to consider competition level but her game in high school is what you hope Teagan Mallegni can become at Iowa.
Yup, I think that is probably true. Mens' bball she'd be our star. :)

So never seen her play and have no idea but I find it interesting that you’ve got 2 girls on one team, one going to LSU and the other to Iowa and they lose by 26 points? I know Dowling has a good history of girls bball but is the rest of the Davenport team that bad? And yet they beat some Eastern Iowa teams by 40-50 points? The disparity in girls bball is crazy.

Dowling and Johnston were both absolutely stacked with talent. They both looked like college teams whereas Liberty and Davenport North looked very much like high schoolers.

Not doubting that but Davenport North has 2 top 100 players on one team. And I understand it takes 5 players to win a game but does Dowling have any players going Power 5?

Zediker is going to Creighton. She has looked better than both of North's girls every time I have watched them. I feel fairly confident Iowa got the better player from that Davenport team in Houston. I just don't see it with Bourrage. Good player, but definitely not a 5 star. She can't shoot. Davenports game is Devine or Journey driving and laying it in, unless a good defensive team blocks those lanes. They can't shoot, and their coaching seemed completely overmatched. No half court offense if Dowling stopped the transition.

Dowling is a well oiled machine that has 5 really good players. They will take a step back next year losing 3 Senior starters that have started the last 3 years together, but both Muller girls will keep them in almost any game. I'd imagine Waukee NW and Johnston will battle it out next year with Johnston on top again. The Davenport 2 played very selfish today and tried to do everything themselves with wreckless drive after wreckless drive.

Tell me about it^. She’s a hard worker and makes it look easy. I still think she’ll be in the portal someday for division one and I’m dead serious. sorry I’m talking about Lauren Walker.

Yes the rest of the team is pretty average. Dowling left a couple girls virtually unguarded and those kids couldn’t make them pay for it. Big girl stood in the lane and could help on drives. Also Divine isn’t close to %100.

If you live in Davenport can you go to any Davenport school? Only reason I’m asking is I’m wondering when you’ve got 2 top players like that that a few other good girls from the area wouldn’t find their way to the team. Happens in a lot of places.

I'll be extremely surprised to see any 5A team from outside the DM metro win a girl's title again.
I'm not sure a 5A all star team could be assembled to do it.

I think plenty of people forget/don't know that Caitlin never even played in a state title game at Dowling. Lost in the quarterfinal her freshman and sophomore year. The game her sophomore year was especially rough--an overtime loss to eventual champion Iowa City West when it looked like they had the game won in regulation.

Lost in the semifinal her junior year, then didn't even make the tournament her senior year.

Good observation.
It kinda proves that even should a couple teams outside the DM metro ever have a generational player, it won't be enough to overcome a roster with several D-1 players.
Because that's what it's become.
Families are moving to the center of the State so their kids can play for the Waukees, Ankenys, Johnstons, and Dowlings of the world.
In all sports!

FWIW, I saw a mock draft for the NBA and Rutgers men's BB had the projected #2 and #3 upcoming picks, yet their overall team success has been modest this year. Go figure.

Braylyn Birmingham from Norwalk, 5-10 rail thin, but a freshman, best player on the team and her Sister 5-9 Sr 2nd best, they are playing now in the link above, Lauren Walker, 5-8 senior from Central Dewit is also very good

I don't know anything about IHSGB.
I'm curious what everyone was saying about Callie Levin throughout her high school career. Obviously, it's still early in Levin's college career, so I'm not being dismissive and I'm still hoping she develops, but are the current high-profile Iowa high school players perceived to be that much better than her, or is this a crapshoot with the Iowa high school competition?

Well keep in mind the all Iowa attack, which draws girls from Illinois ( Kylie Feurbach) & Minnesota won the Nike EYBL AAU championship when Caitlin was a junior or senior. Katie Deininberg, Maya McDermont among others were on that team.

So that’s a long winded way of saying yes they play good girls high school basketball in Iowa, as for Callie Levin, I have no clue

Bailey Brigham just nailed a 35 shot at the buzzer to take a 3 pt lead heading into the fourth. She’s got to have close to 20+ points.

In addition to Zedicker going to Creighton, Elle Muller is a junior and already has ISU and Drake offers, while Jan is recruiting her as well. Her younger sister is a sophomore who already has a Drake offer.
