Final home series of the year, get out and support Iowa if you can. Today the game is at 4pm, 11:00 am on Saturday, and 1pm on Sunday.

It looks like Iowa is going with Blake Hickman on Friday then Sasha Kuebel on Saturday and Tyler Peyton for Sunday.

The 11:00 am game on Saturday will be on BTN. Iowa has three seniors that will be honored this weekend - Taylor Zeutenhorst, Trevor Kenyon, and Bryan Niedbalski.

so iowa only loses 1 FT player. I realize kenyon is injured but he has been out a long time.

bodes well for next year.

the Hawks lose quite a bit next season though. Hopefully these 10 guys Heller has signed are able to provide some immediate impact out of a couple of them next year and the rest solidify the future.

I know we get a breakdown of scholarships in cb and bball any idea on a breakdown for baseball?

I know its much tougher in baseball due to the RIDICULOUS scholarship level baseball gets and theg have to piece meal it together.

From what I can tell, Radtke is age-eligible for the draft. I can certainly see a team picking him up. Outside of maybe Eric Toole I don't think you'll see any of the younger guys drafted.

Iowa loses to Illinois 4-1 in game one of the series. Iowa certainly had their chances in the 1st and 2nd innings of the ball game. Iowa scored it's lone run in the 1st inning. Iowa started the game off with a double and a single, they then hit into a double play which really hurt them. Iowa followed that up with an RBI double before a ground out ended the threat.

In the 2nd inning Iowa had runners on 2nd/3rd with 1 out before they struck out looking then went down on a ground out. The 7th inning, Iowa had men on 1st/2nd with 1 out before they struck out twice. Striking out with runners in scoring position has been the story of this season.

Pitching wise for Iowa, Blake Hickman did about as much as we could ask him to do IMO, his first 4 2/3 innings were no hit baseball before a single, steal, and wild pitch allowed the runner to get to 3rd, Illinois then got a single to tie the game at 1-1.

Hickman then got in a jam in the 6th as he got the first out of the inning before giving up a walk and a single. He was then pulled and Iowa proceeded to hit the batter to load the bases, they got a lineout before a 2 RBI single allowed Illinois to take a 3-1 lead. Illinois scored one more run in the 9th via an error.

Bottom line was today Illinois got the clutch hit, Iowa did not.

Blake Hickman threw 5 1/3 innings and allowed 3 hits, 3 runs, 3 walks, and 9 K's.
Nick Hibbing threw 2 2/3 innings and allowed 3 hits, 1 run, 1 walk, 4 K's, and 1 hit batter.
Jared Mandel threw 1 inning and allowed 1 hit.

Iowa really needs at least one victory this weekend, it's looking like the B1G tournament is going to come down to a road series @ Purdue on Thu-Sat.

Looks like another game of missed chances for Iowa, so far grounded into double plays in two innings where runners have been on 1st/2nd

Iowa loses to Illinois 5-1 today, Illinois didn't do anything special and besides a solo-HR by Kris Goodman Iowa did nothing on offense. They had some chances with one out and grounded into double plays. Sasha Kuebel battled for 8 innings, but it just wasn't enough as he gave up four runs. Matt Allen pitched 1/3 of an inning before getting into a jam, Jake Reinhardt threw 2/3 inning to close it out but a run was surrendered.

Iowa has basically backed themselves into a corner at this point, you basically win on Sunday vs Illinois which will be EXTREMELY tough vs Kevin Duchene from Illinois. He is a guy that has a 1.80 ERA. If Iowa loses vs Illinois they have basically put themselves in a must win (hate to use that term) situation vs Purdue where they will HAVE to win 2/3.

If Iowa can't win, they are seeing the B1G Tournament slip away, and I hate to go back to it but that blown game against Northwestern is looming HUGE as that would give Iowa 9 wins and a considerable amount of breathing room.

Duchene pitched three innings last week against MSU allowing four hits and 1 run, before that it had been March 14th.

More of the same today from Iowa, bases loaded not once but twice and all they can muster is one run on two separate occasions as in once instance they got a flyout for a run then hit into ANOTHER double play on the weekend. Then in another inning they had a good hit ball, it was a lineout to the 2nd basemen though.

A ton of pressure is going to be on this team Thu-Sat and they could quite possibly miss the B1G tournament which is sad considering all the games they've been in this year.

Only way they miss the Tournament is if Purdue would sweep them. Sure the Hawks will be able to squeak out at least one win.

Heard it was 4-2 Illini in the 6th.

Three weeks ago I'd say Iowa would for sure win one against Purdue, with the pitching injuries, Iowa could get swept. Iowa still has no Mathews, Peyton started this weekend and last week but he is not the same as he struggled through 3 innings.

Illinois still leads 4-2 and that may very well by the final as they are in a rain/lightning delay with the 9th still to go.

Purdue just imploded and lost to Minnesota in the Bottom 9th, so assuming Iowa loses to Illinois. Purdue has to sweep Iowa and win all three games this week.

the good thing is that Penn st is losing to Indiana, Michigan st lost to Nebraska, Michigan is beating osu, and Purdue is losing to Minnesota

After a 3-hour delay, Iowa loses 4-2. Iowa is 27 and 8-13 in the B1G, 2nd time we've been swept this year.

It will all be settled on Thu-Sat with Iowa vs Purdue. Purdue gets the sweep and they are in, anything less and Iowa goes. Purdue will be hungry as Iowa has dominated them in the past couple years sweeping Purdue last year and taking 2/3 from Purdue two years ago in what was their best team ever.
