The UNI teams we have played are not and have not been as good as this Illinois State team, especially at the QB position.

The 2005 UNI team was pretty good. We'll see how good this Illinois State team ends up being before I'll just accept a statement that it's better than any prior UNI team we've played. Tre Roberson is a good athlete, but again, we'll see how he performs this season (especially against us).
Question for all the people who think Iowa will lose? Beside RB what position does Illinois St have that's better than Iowa. Roberson is good but so is CJ. They lost their top 3 reception leaders. Granted iowas mess of coverage vs David Johnson last year but on the ground he didn't do much. Not sure where else ISU has an advantage against Iowa going into the game?
Do you really think we'd be able to schedule Oregon or LSU right now? What is the draw for them to play us?

Illinois State has Reggie Spearman too remember. For the life of me, why didn't Iowa try him at DE.
You do realize even the Alabamas of the world play fbs teams. Almost every power 5 conf team has an Illinois st team on their schedule. This isn't new thing for Iowa or any other team to have least one cup cake team on their schedule.
Amazing that Iowa fans don't understand the concept of going to 9 conf games and ISU series the home and road with power 5 won't be happening cause no way Iowa passes on 7 home games instead of 6. Plus neutral site games Iowa isn't high up on teams list to play. It isn't just a simple case of an Oregon, LSU or Texas of college football wanting to schedule Iowa when they can't get lot of other schools who,have more flexibility with non conf schedule.
Maybe Iowa would've been better off scheduling a team like Eastern Michigan as opposed to an FCS power.
I doubt Barta knew that Ill St. would be a power when the game was scheduled back a few years ago. But in his defense... he knew NDSU was a power when he scheduled them for next season. I think Iowa plays with a chip on their shoulder because of that mess against Tennessee.
If our OL is even average this year, the Hawks should be able to run rather easily against both ISUs
The coaches need to be aggressive from the start. But they will probably roll out the same conservative plays and ISU will know exactly what's coming. Plus, when is the last time an Iowa OL came out looking ready to go early in the year? This first game will be frustrating and if Iowa wins it's going to feel like it was doubtful at times.

I saw the typo but it wasn't worth an edit to fix. I am glad we are in agreement that our head coach isn't as good as Ill states coach and isn't good at designing schemes that gives other teams trouble.
This thread would go much better if someone just broke down our two teams unit by unit in comparison? I'm to lazy to do it
