This,.. normal reverse gear wouldn't allow highway speed for an extended period.

True story time....a couple years back during Wednesday night golf league, some contact or wire connection got fouled up on our cart (local 9 hole course where I'm a member, so this was my own personal cart) on hole #6 that wouldn't allow the cart to go forward, but it still worked in reverse.
Needless to say, instead of trying to hitch a ride back to the club house, disrupt the flow of the course, get a rental cart, switch clubs over, have to go back out and get my cart on #6 after the round, etc. my playing partner and I just drove it backwards the last 3+ holes.
Don't recall if we won our match that night or not though....
